Here we go! It is time for some of the other characters to be in the spotlight!

First up, Mikan. While I couldn't stand Mikan in the original, I love the design for the beta! The Frankenstein look really works with the personality I had given her in the story (aka no clumsy ditz).

Enjoy!

As a little girl, Mikan was fascinated in the world of science. To be specific, forensic science. Her dad was a coroner and sometimes would bring her to work as a means to keep her away from her alcoholic mother. She was never afraid of the blood and organs; in fact she loved it. In a way, it was better than school.

As she grew up, she became persistent in her passion of becoming a doctor or a coroner like her father. However, she chose to stay as the Ultimate Nurse until the time comes to go to university. Despite the setback, she was wise beyond her years and when it came to Jabberwock Island, this was her chance to prove herself.

At the big party arranged by Byakuya Togami, everyone seemed to be in high spirits...except for maybe Nagito. He refused to come along with Fuyuhiko who thought it was pointless. Mikan didn't blame them. She, too, thought of leaving but it was until Ibuki came up to her.

"So...about this whole...corpse thing." The Ultimate Musician asked. "Do you enjoy it?"

"Of course." Mikan said with a smile. She felt her spirits lifted. "Yes, it is messy and gross but I get a sense of accomplishment. I am helping people get closure...plus I get a bonus in learning about human anatomy."

Ibuki nodded with satisfaction. "That's brave of you." She then scratched her head. "You know...if you ever need, like, an assistant..."

"Really?" Mikan asked, surprised. "Are you sure?"

"Yeah, I mean...blood doesn't bother me that much. Besides, I don't wanna be a lost cause on this island." Ibuki shrugged.

"Lost cause?"

"Well, just because I am a rock star, it doesn't really mean much to the outside world. Anyone can do it. Just look at YouTube." She sighed. "What you're doing is amazing, Mikan."

The two girls blushed. Mikan looked away from her in embarrassment. "Thank you...at least I am not some klutz or anything."

Ibuki laughed. "Yeah. Who would hire someone like that?"

The two girls kept on talking as they scanned the room, watching their fellow classmates. They were surprised by how much Akane could eat at the buffet table, or how Hajime was hitting on almost all the girls.

"Hey, you know Chiaki, right?" Ibuki asked.

"Chiaki...? You mean the Ultimate Gamer?" Mikan clarified, pointing at the pink haired girl sitting in the corner.

"Yeah...she looks a little lonely, don't you think? I guess Nagito really is her only friend on the island." Ibuki sighed.

"Really?"

"She basically left everyone right after Monokuma's pep talk. Do you think she is okay?"

Ibuki and Mikan decided to go see Chiaki, but before they could get to her, the lights went out. Pretty soon, everyone started to panic. So much was being said that Mikan couldn't get her head straight.

"Oh! I found the breaker!" Mahiru called out before the lights flashed back on. The party room was a mess. What was more surprising was the fact that Hiyoko was lying on the floor with a bowl of potato salad on her head.

"AAAAGGGGHHHH!" Hiyoko screamed so loud that both Mikan and Ibuki covered their ears. "WHICH ONE OF YOU BASTARDS DID THIS?"

"Calm your tits." Kazuichi calmly said. "I am sure that whoever did this..."

Mikan toned out the chaos as she began noticing blood flowing from under the table. She walked slowly towards it, trying not to get her feet in. Carefully lifting up the cloth, she saw Byakuya's dead body.

"...Is that...?" She looked up to see Hajime, face pale as a ghost.

Soon enough, everyone got into a panic again, but it was because someone had died. Mikan, however, remained calm as she stood up and whistled everyone.

"Listen up! We have a crime scene here!" Mikan confidently said. "I need volunteers to help sweep the crime scene. Those who refuse can go outside."

Ibuki of course volunteered, along with Chiaki, Gundham, Hajime and Peko. Nekomaru led everyone else outside the cabin. Mikan gave out jobs: Hajime and Peko would look for clues inside the cabin, Gundham would look outside, Chiaki was to get testimonials from all the students, and Ibuki would help her examine the body.

"First things first, I need some gloves." Mikan told herself and remembered that the kitchen had some. After that, she and Ibuki moved the table away from the body. "Let's see..."

Lifting the body up, she found a puncture wound in his back. "Yeah...in the heart or possibly a lung..." Carefully but quickly, she did a scan of the body to find no other wounds.

Ibuki was looking at the table and she found glow in the dark tape and blood splatter on the sheets. "The hell is this tape for?"

Mikan shrugged, but then noticed the knife underneath Byakuya's body...covered in glow in the dark tape. "It would have something to do with this..."

Hajime and Peko came back from investigating the rest of the cabin when they got a full view of the corpse.

"All he wanted to do was protect us...but he was the one who got killed." Peko said. "Very ironic, isn't it?" Mikan only nodded in agreement.

Some time later...

The trial of Byakuya Togami was done and TeruTeru was executed. It wasn't a good feeling to do that, but they had no choice. Hajime came out as a rising hero, taking charge of the proceedings. Mikan did her part and it was time that he did his.

As she packing up to go to the next island, she heard a knock on the door. On the other side was Hajime.

"Hey..." He greeted.

"Hi...great job out there." Mikan replied while bowing. "You really took control out there."

"Me? I couldn't have done that without you." Hajime said. "If you hadn't controlled the situation in the beginning, we would've have been screwed."

"True...I just hope it doesn't happen again." Mikan shrugged. "Anyways, I need to finish packing. Can we talk later?"

"Oh! Yeah, of course. Just thought I give you some appreciation." He smiled. "See ya later."

Mikan closed the door as he left. She felt like she had finally belonged. She knew she had made the right choice.
