A/N: I felt like writing a story with Izuru Kamakura (Hajime) and Chiaki Nanami. I realize that because of Beta Memories and how it changed the story, Izuru and Chiaki didn't really have any interactions. Time to change that. This story will take place before Beta Memories when everyone has become Ultimate Despair. Time for some drama! Oh, and Happy Halloween! 🎃

Despair...what a tremendous feeling...

Chiaki had just become Ultimate Despair after the traumatic death of her classmate. Unlike her comrades, she wanted to cause despair in a more psychological manner. Make them feel like everything is going okay.

"You want this to end, don't you?" She would say to an unsuspecting victim. "Well, if we pull through, things will work out." Of course, they would buy it...leading them to a predictable demise.

At their hideout in Towa City, Chiaki was typing out a report on a laptop while Izuru Kamakura watched from afar. He leaned on the wall before sighing out of boredom. He wasn't as rambunctious as his classmates. He chose his victims strategically like a shadow in the night. However, when it came to Chiaki, he couldn't helped but be impressed. To act all innocent for the good of despair...

'What is this strange feeling when I see her?' He thought to himself as he leaned against a wall. 'She is very familiar...'

"So...is this a thing you do? Stalking people?" Chiaki asked. He had no idea that she had snuck up on him while lost in thought.

He grunted, refusing to encourage the conversation. He was supposed a lone wolf, for Christ's sake. The strong and silent type. He couldn't let some girl get in the way of that.

"Well, well. Nanami, you look stunning as ever." Soon enough, Nagito showed up in his 'servant' outfit. It was like he knew her...and it pissed off Izuru.

"Ah, Nagito. How did that 'mission' go with Mikan?" Chiaki asked, twirling her hair. When she tried to walk over to him, Izuru immediately grabbed her arm. This was a surprise, even for Izuru.

"What's this? Our fearless leader has grown attached to someone?" Nagito teased, crossing his arms. "That's not like you at all, Kamakura."

"What I do and who I do it with is none of your business, mutt." Izuru hissed at Nagito. "Someone with a lack of talent like you isn't worth any of her attention."

Nagito smirked and chuckled to himself. Putting his hands in his pockets, he walked away whistling. Izuru began to stare daggers at him, hoping to make his point made. He had never felt such hatred before...it scared him.

Chiaki watched silently as she began to see Izuru blurring into a different person: a boy with short, spiky brown hair with an ahoge. His eyes were a lighter green colour compared to Izuru's blood red. Something about it sparked something familiar within her.

'You're so lucky to have a talent...what I wouldn't give to have one...'

She gasped, hearing a vague voice echoing in the back of her mind. It sounded eerily close to Izuru...but it didn't feel like it was Izuru.

"What's wrong?" The gruff voice of Kamakura broke her concentration. Looking up to his stoic face, she could feel chills shiver throughout her body. At one moment, the blurry image reappeared in his place, smiling at her.

"Uhh...it's nothing." She stuttered, immediately looking down. She could feel his gaze burning down her spine, making her shake in nervousness.

"Don't get attached." He simply said with a cold tone. Simultaneously, it broke both of their hearts.

"I...understand..." She muttered sadly. She push past him to resume her duties. Izuru could feel a tear fall down his cheek and touched it.

'Why...am I...crying?' Izuru began to shake as sobs escaped out of his body. 'Stop! Stop it!'

Chiaki looked behind her and saw him fall to his knees. Rushing to him, she realized that he wasn't acting like himself. Tiptoeing over him, she gently placed a hand on his shoulder. He immediately shook it off with a loud grunt.

"DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH ME!" He screamed, making her back up in fear. Panting sharp breaths, he lifted his head. "Why...what the hell...is wrong with me...?"

She couldn't say anything. It was odd for her cool and calm leader to become so distorted. Was it all because of Nagito's flirtatious behaviour? Was her illusion real?

"Are you..." She muttered under her breath.

"Hmm?"

"Is there...someone else...with you?"

"No! I am only me! Izuru Kama...ku...ra..." He trailed off as more tears slid down his cheeks. "Am I...Izuru Kamakura?"

Before Chiaki could respond, Mikan rushed over out of nowhere. "Oh my God! Chiaki! Why didn't you say something?"

She stuttered while the Ultimate Nurse lifted Izuru up and placed his arm over her shoulders. Everything to Chiaki became slow motion and muffled as Mikan was yelling to someone. Izuru glanced over to her, his red eyes softened. She gasped nervously just as things returned to normal. He had disappeared from her sight.

"Oh dear. You really shouldn't be on the ground, Chiaki." Sonia said, lending a hand. "We don't want our class representative catching cold."

"Of course. Thank you." Chiaki acknowledged, taking the hand.

At the end of the day, she walked over to her room, yawning. Causing despair may be fun, but tiring at the same time.

Opening her door, she was surprised to see a red teddy bear sitting on her bed. It had a cute little heart emblem on its chest and inside its ears. Lifting it, its fur was soft and it had the faint scent of cinnamon. She saw the note in its hands and opened it.

'Chiaki,
If you tell anyone my weakness today, you will regret it. Izuru.'

Giggling softly, she laid on her bed while hugging the bear. The thoughts about him and the cinnamon smell made her drift off to a peaceful sleep.
