I was okay with Akane in the original and her beta design is pretty cool. Since I didn't want Chiaki to be the traitor in Beta Memories, I had to pick someone else and give them a reason for doing that. I am sorry for all Akane fans...at least I tried to make her reasoning different from Chiaki's.
This story does contain spoilers for Danganronpa: Beta Memories, so if you haven't read that, please do. You have been warned.

Do I regret the things I have done? Would things would've been different if I went a different direction? These are all questions we ask ourselves all the time. I used to be that way myself. I was a normal kid like you: did my schoolwork as normal, had friends, loving family, etc. I decided to pursue a life as a police officer after graduation. It was a gruelling experience, let me tell ya.However, the Future Foundation saw me as a beacon of hope. They recruited me soon after and tasked me with a very important job. They were looking for a conspirator who was planning to destroy humanity. I would invade Hope's Peak Academy as an Ultimate Student and blend in with my classmates. Easy, right...well, if you are reading this, then you know the answer...

"Look, it's very simple." Akane explained as she showed Sonia how to do a mathematical expression."Wow! I would never expect you to so good at math!" Sonia said, beaming.
"Yeah, I always thought athletes were all numbskulls." Kazuichi commented, getting an evil glare from Nekomaru.
"Ha! I've got brains AND brawn! I am the complete package!" Akane said proudly.
"Indeed..." Gundham agreed before returning to his book.
Akane felt proud of what she had accomplished so far, but still held the guilt of lying to her friends. 'It's for the sake of humanity', she reminded herself. There was no way this traitor was going to win.

At first, Akane loves the peace and quiet as classes resumed as normal, but deep down...it drove her mad. There was literally no trace of a traitor anywhere. No suspicious people, no threats, nothing out of the ordinary."Oh, Ms. Owari?" Her teacher greeted her from behind.
"Good morning, ma'am." Akane bowed in respect. "I didn't see you there."
"Is everything all right?" The teacher looked at her confused. "You seem to be lost in thought."
"Aw, no." Akane shrugged it off. "Just worries about tests and boys. You know, like all teenager girls do." She laughed meekly, hoping she would buy it.
"You know, Akane. You can talk to me if there is anything troubling you."
"Thanks, ma'am...but I am fine." She reassured her before walking past her. 'The last thing I need is people getting their nose into this...sorry teach.'

A few days later, Akane entered the school as normal, but noticed that something was off. There were no students running around. She doubled checked her watch: 8:25am."Huh? It is a school day...did I miss something?" Akane asked herself as she headed over to her classroom.
It was weird to walk down such quiet hallways. Her footsteps echoed loudly, giving her the creeps. Not a single soul was in the entire building, even the teachers were missing.
"Good morning, Akane." Her teacher exited her classroom and greeted the girl. Akane felt bad vibes coming off her.
"Uh..." She didn't know what to say. Try to stay focused, don't let her know you're scared. "Good morning, ma'am...where is everyone?"
"Oh! They are attending a special assembly. I am so sorry that I didn't mention it to you before yesterday." The teacher hesitated. "Quickly! Use this door. It is much faster."
She opened a side door which Akane immediately saw red flags. The traitor must have my friends...I know it. She rushed in through the door, not noticing her teacher's eyes swirling.
Akane felt like she had been running for ages. She panted, legs aching in pain. There wasn't a light to guide her so all she can do is move forward.
BAM!
She ran headfirst into a wall...no, a monitor. It flickered on to reveal the traitor: Junko Enoshima.
"Puhuhuhu! Akane is finally here! We were so worried for you!" Junko greeted with such happiness.
"Where are my classmates, Enoshima?" Akane screamed.
"Jeez, relax. I am holding no one hostage." Junko sighed, turning into Emo Junko. "Wow...who would've thought that such a high class role model could be so mean?"
"Shut up!" Akane ordered. "Just give me back my friends."
"You want them?" Junko asked like she was taunting. "Well...go them them!" She pointed to the left and soon a hallway was lit up. Akane, of course, knew better. However, she didn't want to show weakness to the traitor, so she ran as fast as she could.
It was a maze to get through, literally. With every turn, Akane struggled to find her way. Sometimes, she would spring a trap that stabbed her in the leg, eye, arms, and shoulders. All the while, Junko continued to taunt the girl.
"Aw, c'mon now, Owari. What's your game?"
Junko asked. "Why are you even risking your lives for these losers?"Akane remained silent before she slipped and fell face first onto the ground. She managed to get up, shaking from blood loss.
Junko groaned in exhaustion. "Really...? Just give up already!"
"No! I believe in them! I believe..." Akane's words trailed off as limped her way to a corner and saw the exit. There she saw her teacher waiting for her, smiling. "I believe in the future!"
Junko smirked, watching the girl drag herself to the end. "Can't have a future if you're dead." She said, pressing a button on her console. All of the sudden, Akane was stabbed by a spear, shooting out of the floor and into her chest. It immediately retracted as Akane fell backwards. The floor turned into a bed of spikes and...she landed back first into them.
That's when Class 77-B became Remnants of Despair: witnessing their friend murdered before their eyes. Junko had became successful and soon, she would destroy the world...

A/N:
Sorry to leave it like that. If you read Danganronpa: Beta Memories, you should probably know what happens next with Akane. If not, do check it out. I might write an aftermath fix for Akane since I don't want her to have a bad ending. I did give her some time in the epilogue, but I may write more for her sake.Anyways, thank you for reading and I'll see you in the next one.
