The first thing Melissa noticed were the tears in Theo's empty eyes. Instead of the forest green that they once were, they reminded the woman of nothing. A dark grey, empty void.It suprised her at first, for she thought that Theo was a heartless monster. Damn, was she about to be proven wrong.
Theo slammed the door behind him, unaware of Melissa standing a few metres behind him. He had his back faced towards her, and his head rested against his arms, which were being held up by the door.
The tears were flooding down his face now. Theo hated crying, but he seemed to do it so often these days, the days since he had met Liam, the love of his life.
Melissa could hear the crying before she saw it.
"Theo..?" She asked him, a quiet and soothing voice filling the sad atmosphere around them. "Theo, hunny, what's the matter?" She asked, inching towards the shaking boy, her hand now on his shoulder. He flinched from the contact, but didn't pull away.
"I-I'm sorry...." The young boy whimpered, turning around to face the lady. Only then could she see everything that he had been hiding away.
His eyes were red and puffy, his cheeks stained by tears. Anyone would think that he had been crying for days, even though it had only been a few minutes. Though, maybe he had been crying for days inside. Maybe even years.
Melissa didn't questionthe apology, only nodded and opened her arms, to which Theo gratefully crashed into. He didn't care if he was once afraid of her, or if she was about to kill him. He was just glad to have someone to hold him up.
Melissa whispered sweet nothings into his ear, cradling his head with one hand and rubbing small circles on his back with the other whilst they calmly rocked back and forward.
They stood like that in the middle of the kitchen until Theo's legs hurt. He sunk to the ground, and so did she.
Melissa determined that Theo had changed. The old Theo would never do anything like this and Melissa would probably be dead already if he hadn't changed. She promised herself she would always be there for the chimera, because she knows what it's like to have to deal with the consequences to the decisions that you made years ago.

At some point, there was a knock on the kitchen door.
The person on the other side of the wall didn't bother to wait for permission to enter, though. They just opened the door right away, and a concerned Scott poked his head around the corner of the door. Theo caught the alpha's scent and quickly buried his face further into Melissa's neck.
Scott opened his mouth to say something, but was cut off by Melissa shaking her head. Whatever it was, it could wait.
"I just wanted to say that everyone else wenthome for the night, you guys have been in here for a few hours." Scott said quietly, looking his mum up and down one last time before closing the door, as if he didn't believe that Theo hadn't hurt his mum.
"Ya here that, buddy? We've been here hours," Melissa started, gently prying Theo off of her as she used her thumbs to wipe the tears awya from under Theo's eyes. "You wanna tell me what's going on?" She asked, curious as to what had gotten the chimera so worked up.
Theo only shook his head. "Too much to talk about..." He muttered quietly, more to himself than to Melissa, but she still heard anyway.
"I've got all night," Was her reply, and before the young boy knew it, he was being dragged into the living room and onto the couch, faced with an expectant Melissa opposite him.
He sighed, wondering where to start.
