I had been sitting in front of my laptop for at least an hour, and I still wasn't able to start my English assignment. I had so many things on my mind, I couldn't focus on just one, much less in a stupid assignment.

I had fucked up, badly. Adelaide wasn't talking to me and I was devastated. It wasn't the first time that she'd been avoiding me, but now she had a good reason, and I had no idea how to fix it. I thought about calling her, but I hate people that try to fix things on the phone instead of talking face to face. I thought about going to her house, but she would most likely slam the door on my face. I was desperate, and it annoyed me how much I cared about the whole thing.

I finished my third cup of coffee and went downstairs. I found my mom sitting at the kitchen table, reading a magazine.

"Is everything alright, honey?" She asked putting the magazine away.

"No", I replied hugging her.

"What's wrong?" She cooed running a hand through my hair.

"Me, my life", I said.

"Ugh, you're just as melodramatic as your mother", she groaned and I chuckled. "Now, please tell me what's going on with you".

I sighed and sat down on the chair next to hers. "Remember the girl that came here last week?" I asked.

"Of course! Sydney was her name?"

"Adelaide", I chuckled.

"Pretty girl", she nodded.

"She hates me", I said.

My mom gasped. "What? Why?"

"Uh, well, mom, you know that I'm seventeen, right?" She nodded. "Well, I, uh, I don't really know-"

"If you're trying to tell me that you already had sex then calm down 'cause I already know", she interrupted me laughing a little.

"Okay, awesome", I laughed. "How do you even know?" I asked a little confused.

"Honey, I know you more than you know yourself", she stated.

"Creepy. Really creepy", I laughed.

"Anyway! I'm guessing it was with her?" I nodded. "And now she's mad at you because you probably told someone you shouldn't have told, am I right?"

"Not exactly", I chuckled.

"Dang it!" She scowled. "Then what did you do?"

I sighed, hiding my face behind my hands for a moment. I told my mom everything. About Josh, about Adelaide and her parents, I told her about what Luke had said to me, I even told her about the whole Natalie thing, I basically gave her a whole essay about what had been happening the last few weeks.

"Oh", she said after I finished and then sighed. "Well, I think you should talk to her. There's nothing a girl hates more than when a boy assumes that she knows everything".

"I'm not assuming she knows everything", I said.

"I know, but that's how it feels. It's like you're expecting her to know that you're upset about it, even though you're not doing something to make it better", my mom added.

I knew she was right, she was always right, just like Luke, and I knew that I had to do what she said.

"But what should I do then?" I asked. "I can't think of something that could help".

"Uh uh. You just don't want to take the risk", she shrugged. "If you really care about her and you believe she's worth it, then you'll figure it out sooner or later".

I stayed quiet for a moment and stood up. "Thank you, mom", I hugged her again.

"Oh, don't thank me. Thank all the assholes that I dated in high school", she let out a short laugh.

"Are you trying to say that I'm an asshole?" I pouted.

"Of course not, dear. But if you don't fix things with that girl, then maybe I will", she smiled.

I went to my room again, sat down in front of the computer for like the fifth time that day, and started writing. Maybe Luke's idea wasn't that bad.
