*Beth's POV*
Ash's big brown eyes landed on me, wide and full of astonishment.
“What-What the hell-”
He went on like that for a while. Well, I could hardly blame him for it really. He had just been attacked by a pair of werewolves, if he weren’t scared he’d have been an idiot. He kept babbling for a while, a good ten minutes I should say, every so often looking at the dead wolves on the floor.
Finally, he stopped stammering.
Instead, he only looked at me, wide and wondering.
“Why do you have a gun?”
My mouth nearly dropped in disbelief. I had just saved him from becoming dog food and all he thinks about is my gun?
He asked a different question “What are you doing here anyway?”
That snapped me back to reality.
What was I doing?
I leaned in closer to him, so our faces were barely inches apart. He leaned back slightly trying to put more distance between us, but I grabbed him gently on the back of the neck holding him in place.
I put all of my Influential Power into my voice.
“You left the library late finishing a project for school.” I made my voice as smooth as possible. “You dropped your bag in the parking lot. You went into the alley to go home. You don’t remember anything else.”
He blinked, dazed, his face remaining emotionless.
While his mind was recovering from the Influence, I raised the butt of my gun over his head and struck him down.
Sorry, Ash.
It was either that or the whole of his memories of today got erased. I was good at getting the people I Influenced to do what I wanted, but changing and erasing memories were a lot harder. It tired you out easily of you weren’t used to it. And if you didn’t have that much power, like me.
I tucked my gun back into my waistband of my jeans and pulled my shirt back over it.
“Wow,”
I looked up to see Cole sitting on top of the chain fence that closed off the parking lot, his long legs dangling off the chain link metal. Cole was rather tall, taller than most guys anyway. He had a beautiful face that attracted more than a fair share of female attention. With high cheekbones, perfectly toned body and luminous blonde hair that fell unintentionally seductive over his crystallised blue eyes, he was every girl’s dream. Too bad for them, he was extremely choosy about women.
A short laugh escaped my throat.
“How long have you been sitting there?”
He nodded to the dead wolves. “Long enough to see you play John Wayne and knock the kid’s lights out,”
