*Beth's POV*

Garnet stood in the doorway open mouthed in shock. “Are you insane?”

That had been the third time she’d said that, and the thing was that it seemed to be getting more and true each time she said it.

Cole and I had ridden back to the manor on my motorcycle, with Ash still in Cole’s arms. Sure, it hadn’t been the most comfortable way of getting here, but it was a lot faster than running all the way home.

The manor was just on the outskirts of town, right on the edge of the forest.

Ash was lying still unconscious over Cole’s shoulder, but he wouldn’t stay asleep forever.

“Yes, Garnet, I am insane.” I was getting really impatient now. “Can you just move so we can get inside? I can’t exactly explain it out here.”

Garnet took a quick look behind her, checking for anyone else. When she was satisfied no one was around she quickly ushered us inside.

The foyer was amazing. I was always impressed with this house, even if I had lived here for almost a year now. The first thing you saw was the two grand stairwells on the two parallel walls, each leading into the separate wings of the mansion.

Near the foot of the steps on each side was a set of double doors that lead into different parts of the house. You could never name all of the various chambers of the luxurious manor. But the incredulous amount of space wasn’t wasted.

Cole took Ash away to through to one of the lounges while Garnet and I made our way to the kitchen.

Like every other room in the house the kitchen was huge. A giant island counter and breakfast bar in the centre of the room with every state of the art kitchen appliance you could think of.

I headed straight for the dishwasher, collecting a glass from the tray and heading to the fridge for some ice water. Ash was going to need this when he woke up, probably something a lot stronger too.

Garnet was standing on the other side of the island, her fingernails tapping nervously on the polished marble surface.

I sighed in frustration. “Are you going to keep doing that? You’re starting to give me a headache.”

The tapping immediately stopped.

Less than a second later, Garnet was grabbing my shoulder, forcing me to turn around to face her. I had to stop myself from nearly dropping the glass. After living with her for so long I had almost forgotten that her reflexes and speed were a lot faster than mine, as well as most of her abilities.

“What the hell were you thinking?” she hissed. “Bringing that human here, of all places.”

Her face was filled with panic and concern.

Garnet had been here the longest out of all of us, except for Zane, and this had never happened before.

A human was never allowed to enter the manor, even an unconscious one. It was forbidden, a part of the Sacred Codes, and here I was breaking it. She was clearly terrified of the consequences of my hasty actions.
