*Beth's POV*
His room was still a mess, even worse now than it was last night, which honestly I thought was impossible.
Ash lay asleep in his bed, his chestnut hair sticking out against the light blue pillow sheet and the navy bed cover. Silently, I stepped over to the bed, crouching down beside it, slowly pulling the cover back so I could see his face.
The moonlight illuminated his face. Ash’s hair dusted his eyelids gently. His fringe was brushing over his forehead in its natural tousled manner, his breath coming as a soft snore as he slept.
How he could sleep so peacefully when he’d discovered so much I’d never know. Maybe I’d been just a weaker human than he was. It wasn’t unlikely.
I shook my head vigorously.
What was I doing? I knew what had to be done. So why wasn’t I doing it?
Once again I clutched my pendant, searching for the power I needed to complete my task. I gently placed my hand on the side of Ash’s head. I slid my eyes shut.
Erasing memories while the subject was asleep was a little trickier that when they were awake. When you sleep your subconscious goes over almost every memory you have. You have no idea that it’s happening either because your conscious mind only focuses on certain things at one given time. When you needed to get rid of one memory, however, it was somewhat difficult because if you weren’t careful you could erase a lot more than you had wanted to and it may not have erased the memory you needed to in the first place.
Hopefully, this would work.
Just as I began to start I was interrupted.
A hand covered my own that was placed on Ash’s head.
I opened my eyes to see Ash’s russet brown eyes staring back at me from his bed. My gaze shifted to my hand on the side of his head. Ash’s palm was softly resting on top of it, covering it completely with his.
The sound of his voice almost made me jump.
“Should I ask why you’re in my room in the middle of the night?”
To my own surprise, he was totally calm. Once again he hadn’t reacted to me as I’d expected him to. Again I had guessed for him to freak out, or at least act surprised to see a strange girl in his bedroom at one in the morning. But he was completely normal, except for being slightly drowsy from just waking up. He was fine.
I suddenly realised I had to respond. Only I couldn’t find any answer to give him.
When I didn’t answer, he turned on his back sliding to his left, further away from me.
He left the mattress so that he only used half of the bed. About a minute passed by and still I was a dumb mute.
He patted the empty space of the mattress with his hand.
“You’re feet will fall asleep if you keep crouching like that.”
Again, I had no idea what to say. He was asking me to lay down with him? In his bed? Had he lost his mind? Well one this was for sure, I had definitely lost mine.
After a moment, I stood up from crouching beside the mattress and, slowly, I slid into the bed beside Ash.
I stared up at the ceiling of his bedroom. Like the rest of his room, it was painted a shade of blue, the wooden beams painted a darker shade in contrast.
