Okay! That author's note was rather cruel. Considering my eon old, unannounced hiatus, I figured the least that I owed you guys was a follow up from the chapter I left you with over a year ago. As I said before, I'm not really happy with this chapter but I'm hoping this can be a small step towards forgiveness? Haha either way here you go! Ash and Beth finally return!

The Boy

Kayla’s eyes had fluttered shut from being smothered by the guy in the grey coat. I screamed the entire time the vampires dragged me away. I was such an idiot! I should’ve told Kayla about him the minute I saw her. None of this would’ve happened.

They tied me up and blindfolded me as soon as we got outside the mansion. They then bundled me into a car, that much I was sure of. The rumble of the engine and cold metal of the outside of the vehicle as they’d shoved me inside confirmed it. The rest I had no idea. The only hint of the real world was the sound of water from somewhere.

Shivers swept up and down my spine. Wherever they’d taken me it was freezing, I wasn’t even sure I was in Greenvale anymore. Stumbling most of the way, they shoved me forward, sending me crashing to the floor. I felt the fresh bruises forming beneath my skin. I kicked my legs as I was dragged along the ground. After being punched in the gut once more, I shut up.

Hard restraints were fixed to my ankles, leaving me unable to lift my legs with their intense weight. Finally, they removed the blindfold. I had to blink several times for my sight to fully return. A cramped cell, that’s where they’d put me. A cramped cell made of stone, to make it even better. Well, at least that explained the echoes. We must’ve been in one of the caverns in the cliffs. That’d explain the car journey. By car was the only way to get to the cliffs, especially to the caves.

My eyes fell on the man in front of me. The man in the grey coat stood with his hands shoved in both of his pockets, staring at me.

A disturbing grin crept onto the man’s face. “Hello Ashton,”

My throat went dry. This man, this Shade, it knew my name. Although I shouldn’t really have been that surprised by this point. I knew about Garnet’s ability to read minds, that hadn’t bothered me that much, after all I trusted her. But this stranger, this thing, the mere idea of it being able to know what I was thinking, to see into my thoughts, it terrified me to no meaning.

He chuckled at my fear.

“H-How do you know my name?” I stammered, cursing myself for it.

The man dropped to his heels, his devilish black eyes in line with my own, mocking me. “B-because I know a lot more than you think, human.”

I stared at the man. He was insane. His black on black eyes held the glint of a madman. He behaved like a child, taking the Mick out of me as if he were a pre-schooler.

A low groan came from the other side of the cell. The madman diverted his attention from me to it.

“Relax Ash,” she umbled. “Werewolves can’t hear your thoughts. He’s just playing his own little twisted game.”

“Well, well, well, you really have done your homework haven’t you?” A pleased smile spread across his face as he crossed the room.

“My dear Elizabeth, are we feeling better now?”

Kayla sat slumped against the wall, her hands and feet shackled to hilts embedded into the stone. They’d taken far more methods to restrain her rather than me, chaining her hands as well as her legs. It wasn’t as if a human like me could do much to them anyway.
