You could read in Noel's eyes what was going on in his head, as he came closer and fixed my lips. I was overwhelmed and didn't know what to do. Suddenly my room door opened and Granny's head appeared in the door.
Noel quickly backed away. "Oh Gosh! I'm sorry!" She said, hastily and closed the door again. I rolled on my back and took a deep breath. Finally I got up and gave Noel a sign to wait. I walked down the hall and reached her room.
She sat on her bed reading 'Outlander'. "Granny?" I asked and knocked against the door frame. She looked up from her book. "I'm so sorry, Cara, I didn't know that you and Noel..." I interrupted her. "There's nothing between Noel and me." Confused she tilted her head.
"But. What was that right there?" She asked and I shrugged, slightly.
"We were just talking Jue." I heard a deep voice behind me.
I nodded in agreement and turned around. "Right. We were just talking." I said over my shoulder and pushed Noel towards the stairs.
"I think you should go now." I said without looking at him and dragged him down the stairs. "Cara look I..." He looked to the ground. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. It's just, your eyes." He shuttered and stayed standing in the open door. I raised an eyebrow, "What about my eyes?" Waiting for his answer, I bit my lower lip.
He took a deep breath as he looked at my lips. "Nothing. I'll leave now." He stepped outside and shut the door behind him. For a moment I stood there rooted to the ground.
I thought about what happened a few minutes ago and sighed.
Then opened the front door. "Noel wait!" I shouted after him, he stopped in the driveway. "What, Cara?" I looked to my feet. "I think I should tell you something I should have told you a long time ago." I said, hesitating. He turned around and slightly shook his head. "And what would that be?" I tried to read in his eyes what he thought, but I couldn't and he came closer again.
Because I wanted to avoid Granny hearing anything, I closed the front door behind me.
"I've never told you why I stopped writing your Diary." I said, quietly. "Could be. But why does that matter right now?" He asked and raised an eyebrow. I took a deep breath, but when I looked at him, I got nervous and panic overcame me.
"I stopped writing because..." I paused, "...because I might have liked you a little too much." I said voiceless. I looked at him and his mouth stood open. "Why didn't you tell me?" He asked me.
"I was scared I guess." I admitted, honestly. He smiled. "Well. I guess I wasn't always completely honest either." Confused I sat down on the stairs. "What are you talking about?" He stood in front of me and looked me in the eyes. "If you don't believe me, go ask Matt. But, I've always talked about you. Sometimes he was so annoyed that he said 'Noel. Stop, or I'll tell her.' the idea that you knew, scared the fuck out of me." He laughed, softly.
I frowned. "Wait. You, you liked me, too?" I was confused. "Yeah. I guess that's what I tried to tell you right now." He scratched his head.
I smiled, "Okay." He sat down next to me and I leaned my head against his shoulder.
"Why did we stop talking to each other?" I asked him and looked up to the sky.
"I don't know. Maybe because we were stupid, thinking Amy and Matt would replace us." Noel said and looked down to me. "I missed my Best Friend." I laughed. "Did you just put me in the Friendzone?" Noel asked, played horrified. I giggled "Doesn't mean you can't get out." I smiled, cheekily.
"I'll go back inside now." I got up and made me on my way in. Noel grabbed my wrist. "Wait you said 'Doesn't mean you can't get out.'? You..." I put on my sweetest smile, shrugged and said; "Don't think too much about it. Just find out." I winked, released me from his grip and went inside.
