SOPHIA

🥀

Around Sophia's first weeks of being seventeen, Lola's older sister brought drinks over. She didn't care much about what they did since their parents were out of town. Lola and Sophia decided to get drunk together for the first time. The morning after, she woke up with a headache she had never experienced before. She felt nauseous but not enough to throw up. This morning she woke up with the same headache but a different feeling. When Lola and her woke up that morning, they laughed about how dumb they were. This time, she woke up with a familiar emptiness.

"Finally! Your mom wouldn't stop calling."

Sophia could barely make out Lola's figure who was standing next to her with her phone in hand. "You have some explaining to do."

The hungover girl rolled over, groaning into the pillow. "I want to forget about it. If I don't tell you about it I'll forget about it much faster."

"Fine," Lola muttered. "But you have to get going. It's almost nine and your mom said you had somewhere to go-"

"My appointment!"

Sophia had already missed her appointment with her advisor a few days ago so she rescheduled to today. She had set her appointment for 10:20 but with everything going on, she was forgetting about it.

"What appointment? Doctor?"

She scrambled to get her things together and racing to find her heels. She only had less than an hour to get ready and drive all the way there. Luckily, Lola's house wasn't far from hers so she would be able to make something quick to eat.

"I have to meet with my advisor. Can I borrow one of your shoes, please? Thank you."

Lola gasped, watching as Sophia took a pair of her shoes. "I thought you already did that?"

"I missed it so I rescheduled for today. I have to go. Thank you, I'll explain everything later."

Lola's parents were still sleeping so Sophia was able to avoid an awkward and confusing interaction. She texted her mom telling her she was on her way which she replied with a smiley face. She didn't suspect anything which got rid of some of the stress but she was still worried about the time.

The streets were quite empty with the exception of school buses and public buses. As she was arriving at the corner before her house, a red light stopped her. The time read 9:10 and she was more than relieved. She wouldn't have time for food but at least she had time to change and rush out the door. A school bus stopped by her right side; they were the only ones on the road. Sophia sighed, looking around the empty street until she saw the public bus stop and that bench.

Sophia always smiled whenever she saw that bench. She saw it whenever she was returning home or leaving. It was her favorite memory because it was where Zabdiel and her used to meet up at the start of their relationship. There was one time that she always recalled... the time her parents met Zabdiel but as a friend. Sophia had brought Zabdiel and Joel over since they actually had a project together. Her parents thought Zabdiel was still in school so Sophia made them believe that. Joel had already met Sophia's parents and they got along very well. Sophia's mom never stopped telling her that she should get a nice boy like Joel. When they saw Zabdiel, they immediately repelled from him. They acted coldly towards him which only made Zabdiel want to hide their relationship more. Sophia wanted to test things out and clearly, her parents weren't having it. If they acted that way with him being just a friend, how would they react if Sophia told them they were dating?
