SOPHIA
🥀
Sophia had never felt such an immense shock to the heart before. His words replayed in her mind, each time getting louder and louder. Her heart squeezed at the thought of him basically using her and she felt so much rage. Sophia swore that his feelings toward her were true because how can the eyes deceive? Zabdiel was expressive; his eyes gave everything away. Sophia saw the tenderness in them, the sweet loving gleam whenever he was with her. How could someone feign such intense emotion?
"Sophie," Lola frowned at her best friend who had her head buried in her pink pillow. "Can you please tell me what happened? Why did you guys break up?"
Sophia felt the strong sensation of wanting to scream, kick but mostly cry. She sat up and threw her pillow down to the floor and rubbed her face. It was more than likely that her face was red and puffy but she didn't care.
"He said he can't be with me anymore," Sophia replied without a stutter. "I was a useless temporary fix."
Lola's mouth fell agape, she stood up abruptly with a fierce look. "He what? This must be a prank."
"He didn't look like he was joking, Lola," Sophia muttered as she harshly wiped away her tear stains. "I don't get it. We were doing so well... how can you lie- how can you fake..."
"That ass used you Sophia," Lola scowled. "Te enamoro, got in your pants and dipped. Oh my gosh, I should've known better than to let you be with him."
Though Zabdiel confessed what Lola said, it didn't hit her until Lola said it. It was true. He slept with her, made her feel so special and left her. He got what he wanted from her and left.
"Sophie," Lola softened her voice and sat next to her. "I'm so sorry."
"Lola," Sophia whimpered as she burrowed her face into Lola's shoulder. "I don't believe him. He can't be telling the truth."
Both of the girls knew that Sophia was going to stay in the denial phase for some time. It was only her first heartbreak.

TWO WEEKS LATER
Sophia used to love the feeling of being so love and having that special someone on your mind 24/7. She let her mind swim in thoughts that only had him in them. She never thought for a moment that they would break up and now she's left regretting ever allowing him take over her thoughts so much. Her only way out was to distract herself with the only thing she had left at the moment. Work.
After graduating, she was given the chance to work extra hours. Though most nights were sleepless, she didn't let anything stop her from doing the things she had to get done. A few weeks before they graduated, Sophia had received her acceptance letter to her desired university. She had scheduled a meet up with an advisor to start planning but Sophia found herself canceling. She had done her part in scheduling but she failed in going. Lola kept pushing her until Sophia told herself enough was enough even though she genuinely didn't feel like meeting an advisor.
Summer time was typical for malls to be filled to the max and Bath & Body Works was no exception. Sales were going crazy and customers wouldn't stop coming inside the small store without their coupons. In another time, Sophia would've dreaded going to work during this time but right now she was nothing but grateful. From 1:30pm to
6:30pm, the store was almost never empty so she was occupied most of the time. Her brain didn't have time to think and thank god for that.
