SOPHIA
🌷
ONE YEAR LATER
"You've been glaring at them for the past 30 minutes already. Isn't this exam tomorrow?"
Sophia scowled, pulling her notebook toward her but continuing to glare at her notes. She had her final exam tomorrow in calculus and despite avoiding it, there was distraction everywhere. However, no matter how hard she tried to grasp what she was reading, her eyes kept gravitating to the pair across the outdoor cafeteria.
"You know he likes you."
"She's too touchy."
Lola sarcastically laughed, "really? Girl, you're not his girlfriend so it shouldn't matter to you."
"Shut up, I know," Sophia mumbled as she sank into her seat.
"I don't get you, Sophia. He's been waiting for you since last year. You're single and over that ex of yours. What is holding you back?"
Sophia huffed but her face didn't show annoyance. "What if he doesn't like me anymore? As you said, it's been a year. Can a guy wait for a girl that long?"
"Dude," Lola scoffed. "That guy hasn't left your side for a second. Have you seen how he looks at you? I know you're scared but he's shown that he's nothing like your ex. Heck, if your ex moved on then you have every right to do so."
"This isn't about him anymore, Lola. I don't even think of him," Sophia muttered. "I just hope I didn't make him wait too long."
Instead of replying, Lola picked her phone up. Sophia was unaware of this since she began to sulk as she read her notes. Lola dialed her victim and smiled to herself.
"Hey! Do you see us?"
"Huh?" Sophia asked softly but Lola waved her off.
"Great! Come, Sophia needs you."
Upon hearing this, Sophia sprung up in her seat and glared at Lola. "Who did you just call?"
"Sophie? What's wrong?"
Joshua stood in front of her with concerned eyes. Sophia's eyes fell back to where he was originally and saw the other girl glaring at her with crossed arms.
"See," Lola whispered. "All yours."
"I..." Sophia struggled to find her words, especially with Joshua attentively staring at her.
"I have to go," Lola happily sighed as she stood up with her bag in hand. "I hope the status changes when I meet you guys again."
"Status?" Joshua asked. "What status?"
Lola smiled at him but didn't respond. She nudged Sophia's shoulder before walking away from them. Joshua strangely glanced at the girl before taking a seat and smiling at Sophia.
"So? Did you need help with something?"
"Um, were you doing something important?"
