Wait what have I done now?
I stood next to my desk and waited patiently thinking of all the reasons why I had to stay behind. I felt a little awkward standing here because the kids that were leaving the classroom were looking over at me and whispering amongst themselves.
He waited for the classroom to empty before he started walking over to my desk where I stayed glued.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to tell you off." He chuckled as he looked at my face.
I let out the breath I was holding onto and looked up at him confused as to why he wanted to talk to me.
"No I was wondering how you are?"
"I'm okay." I spoke confused as to why he wanted me to be late for my next lesson.
"Your mother called letting us know that you would be moving once you break up from school."
She did what? She already spoke to the school about me leaving. Why this early? I still have over three months left.
"Moving can put a strain on your grades and you're a straight A student, I would hate for your grades to slip." He took a deep breath and smiled at me with his yellowish teeth.
"Sir, I can assure you that my grades will not slip and if they do I will do anything to get them back up. But I know that will not happen." I said smiling at him.
"That is good to hear Alice. But I want you to know us teachers are here for you if you ever need to talk to us about anything." With that he scratched his head as if he was scratching his hair, if he had any.
I laughed on the inside at his gester at trying to scratch his hair. I smiled at him.
"Okay, thank you sir. If I do have any problems I will be sure to speak to someone." I smiled again.
Before I left the classroom he handed me a note excusing me for being late to my next lesson. I did assure him and the other teachers that had spoken to me during the day that my grades won't slip just because I was moving. With every teacher I made sure that each of them knew I was fine and if I wanted or needed to talk to someone I would go to them.
The day was going well I had lunch now and two lessons left for the day, I had not run into Dylan and for me that was a good thing because I didn't want to behave the same as I did last night or let anyone see my reaction if he was going to pull anything.
I finally sat down at our lunch table with Poppie, I told her about how the teachers were worried about me and my grades. I was half way through my sandwich before she spoke.
"What were you doing yesterday?"
I tried to swallow the sandwich that felt like a rock in my throat, I looked at her, I couldn't tell her about Dylan she would freak out, so I kept my mouth shut about it.
"Oh, my phone died." I looked back down to the table without making eye contact.
The excuse could have worked but she knows when I lie, she opened her mouth to talk but I felt a nudge in the back of my head.
I turned around to see who it was, our eyes met and locked on to each other. My heart started to pick up the pace, it felt like we were in our own fantasy world after what felt like forever, the world started being ripped apart and Zoe stood in front of my vision, her blonde hair falling over her shoulder, her hazel eyes piercing like daggers into my soul.
"Watch what you're doing pig." She spat at me.
I blinked and anger boiled inside of me. This was it, I'm gonna hit her.
"Excuse me..."
I slammed my hands on the table and pushed myself up, making Poppie and Zoe both jump. A couple of kids that were surrounding the table we were at, turned their heads in our direction. Some kids started chanting fight, fight, fight, some others were getting the kids that were in the hallway into the canteen. Most of the kids stood there and watched us silently. I stood in front of Zoe.
Up close her face was caked in makeup and if you tried to remove it, I'm sure there was something ugly hidden underneath, you could tell she had dyed her hair again to get the platinum blonde. She made eye contact with me and just as she opened her mouth Dylan jumped in, grabbed her arm lightly and pulled her away.
He turned back just before making way out of the crowed and mouthed the words "sorry" before shooting me a smile I know all so well.
"What was that?" Poppie asked with her face lighting up.
"What was what?" I sat back down after watching them exit the canteen, I finished the last part of my sandwich and started drinking my water as she stared at me wanting to say something.
"Hmm, nothing I'll pretend that I never saw anything." She finished the sentence, got up and piled the books into her fresh polished hands, she winked at me and stuck her tongue out as she rushed away to go to her next lesson.
I made up an excuse not to go to Poppie's today, I told her that I was starting to pack my things but really I just wanted to be alone.
Because I was not going over there I didn't have a ride home so I had to walk which I didn't mind. The sun was out and beating down, the trees were rustling as the small wind glided through them, this walk was very relaxing and I enjoyed it.
I got in and my mother was not there, I ordered a pizza for dinner using the money she left in the pot the night before and jumped into the shower. This time I made sure that the curtains in my room were closed and just as I finished getting dressed the doorbell rang through the house.
I took the pizza from the pizza guy that stood there staring at me, soon as I paid him I thanked him and shut the door. I placed the pizza box on the coffee table and went to the kitchen to get a drink from the fridge. I walked to the living room and the doorbell rang again, I swung the door open.
"Meat Feast?" Dylan asked as he grinned at me.
"You know it." I laughed and closed the door behind him.
"Make sure you take your shoes off as mum washed the carpet yesterday." He slipped his shoes off and plopped himself onto the sofa and snatched a piece of pizza from the box.
Everything was going well, it was as if the night before didn't happen. I sat up and picked the remote up to get Netflix up and choose a movie.
"No, anything but that." He moaned and rolled his eyes.
"Well what do you want to watch?" I huffed as he stole the remote out of my hands.
I got up and was on my way to the toilet, I stopped in my tracks as I heard a bang from the garden.
"Hey. Dylan!" He came rushing in after I shouted.
"Did you hear that?"
I asked him and took a step back towards the living room. He looked at me and laughed.
"Yeah, I heard the noise, I'm not deaf Alice."
He strolled over to the kitchen window and leaned over the side and pulled the small part of the blind down to look out into the garden.
"There's nothing here, it was probably a cat or some other animal. If you're scared I will stay until your mum gets back." He said standing back up and smiling at me.
My cheeks started burning up, I turned on my heels and rushed to the foot of the stairs before I managed to get up the stairs, Dylan grabbed my wrist lightly.
