The teenagers were occupied by the mountains that surrounded them. The Rocky Mountains were a beautiful sight that none of the kids had ever really witnessed. Understandable with the lack of traveling they've done in the past seven years. They were on a very deserted road, which was probably a strategic measure. In the past two hours it had been silent. But they were getting bored, so conversation had started to strike. The guards were pretty far up in the bus, and whispering would do for now. The teens assumed that if they were caught talking they'd be yelled at.
"Hey, guys," Jin whispered. This grabbed the attention of the rest of the group, including Ian. That car had been following us since we left the base. The kids looked the direction to see a black SUV about 180 meters away. Since it was quite far no one could see who was driving it.
"Jin, can you see them from here?" Adam mumbled. Jins eyes lit up a soft purple and he stared at the car. His eyes dimmed and he shook his head.
"Its probably the facility. They know your limits and theyre doing their best to avoid being noticed." Ian warned.
"Why did they take us in the first place? Are we the first, is there more? Why us?" Lizzie begged. Ian sighed uncomfortably.
"A while back, before Project Hybrids was approved, I was taken in for a job interview. I had no idea they were an illegal facility and I was looking for work to help out with the costs of the house me and Ben were planning on building. I got the job and I was a doctor for some of the kids they had held there already. I was also so curios why so many kids were there, and why they were in such bad conditions. Their cover up was that they were a hospital for kids that normal hospitals couldnt help. I admit I was dumb, some of the kids pleaded for help, but I was told they were Schizophrenic from the experience of their injuries. When I finally discovered the actual reason all of these kids were held there, they locked me in a fortified doctors office.
"They came to me one day with a request for eleven serums that could change the body. They asked me to make it so that theyd be able to infuse the DNA of animals, or anything I could think of really, into the DNA of a young child. They hoped this would bring them more control of the human body and test to see if we, as a species, could evolve into something greater. More powerful. I refused at first, but got curious. Could I really make something of this quality? I guess they found out about it. They kidnapped my husband who had finished our house, alone while Id been missing for two years. They used him for leverage and made me upgrade the serum to add abilities.
"When it was done, they took it. It took many tries, most experiments were killed or suffered severe consequences. It was always my fault, they said. I finally found out what to do to make sure it didnt harm anyone, and when they took that one they stopped. They were content with their perfect little creations, until Sieraa decided she wanted a dragon army. I was forced to make cloning serums, but I got her back. After 10 years of the place, I finally got her back." Ian explained.
"So before us all experiments failed." Cory wondered. Ian nodded solemnly. "Oh." Ian quickly looked up at the mountains and looked to the front.
"Its time." The kids looked ill-prepared. What were they going to do about the SUV behind them? What was going to happen?
"We have ten minutes before we pass the house." Ian warned.
"I say, we knock out the guards positioned at the front and make the driver keep going. If Jin cant see the Suv with his sight, theres no way the SUV would be able to detect whats going on in here." Adam suggested.
"So, thats the plan?" Joel asked. Adam shrugged.
"Not all of it. Well need a way to stop the SUV and then well need to exit the bus. For all we know there could be a dragon in that car. We dont want that right now." Adam stated.
"Or a slimy Sieraa." Ian commented.
"Slimy Sieraa?" Max questioned. Ian grinned.
"Lets do this." Cory spoke. There was some hesitation before Ian pointed out the had eight minutes left and the kids agreed.
"Cory could you use your time pause and get us out of here?" Joel asked.
"I dont think I could use it for that long, but I could definitely make it so we can leave the bus and get halfway through that field before I cant use it any longer." Cory warned. Adam nodded.
"If things get too bad I could always carry you the rest of the way." Adam suggested with a playful smirk.
"You wish." Cory groaned.
"Seven." The kids quickly got into action as the saw Corys eyes light up before they were being pulled out of their seats. Away from the colourless bodies still sat there. Cory motioned for the back door of the bus and Adam pressed it open. Ross, made quick copies of themselves that would last for 20 minutes and made them sit were there colourless versions sat. All 13 people made their way out of the bus and headed for the field. Towards the mountain. Once they reached the slope, the wind started to pick up and they crouched behind the tall grass, watching as the cars zoomed by. When they were clear out of sight they stood up.
"Time to get to climbing." Joel commented.
"Do we even have hiking equipment?" Red questioned.
"Nope." Shelby confirmed, popping the p. The group quickly made their way up the mountain and made sure to follow the directions Ian gave them. They were on the homestretch and it was worth the wait.
