Meet Me by the Train: A Dream

"Meet me near the train." I heard you say to me.

"Where my heart and thoughts will be."

Majestic-and really quite unique.

I wondered: Did she just recite a poem,

Or did she truly want to meet?

No matter your intention,

You placed a spell on me;

One I hoped would last for forever-

For the first time I felt free.

Your eyes held every shade of green,

With light-brown swirls throughout

Like the way I imagine Earth is seen

From where the stars lie out.

-Suddenly, memories of my past dreams,

With the addition of something new,

Swirled 'round my head like sparkling streams

'Cause the addition I saw was you.

"Meet me near the train." you said to me again.

"I'll be at the stop my heart and thoughts have been."

I'd hear you, but...I wouldn't go:

Too mesmerized by your eyes;

Too scared you wouldn't show;

Too caught up in a fake disguise-

I'm not the man you know.

So I told another lie,

Promised you I'd go,

And watched the train go by,

While tears fell from my eyes.

"Meet me by the train,

Where my aching heart remains."

You had a voice like none I've ever heard before:

Strong enough to shatter stone,

Yet it could whisper life into my bones.

But my breath-whispered you away,

And carried you off on to the train,

Where you'd visit places I could no longer dream of.

And every night I prayed to God above,

That he would send back my one true love.

"Meet me near the train."

Voooohm! Voooohm!

I heard the horn and the rumbling of tracks,

And the screeching of rust from the rails in the back-

And I screamed "I'll change! Please come back."

I thought about you and it drove me mad:

It should be me on that train!

(Instead I stayed back.)

It should be me next to you!

(I beg you-come back!)

"Meet me near the train." is all that I could hear,

As I tried to plug the pain of you not being near.

-Nothing worked. You were gone and I was here,

And I wished-like a dying storm-my memory'd settle and clear.

CRASH! The storm raged on,

While you...moved on.

"Meet me near the train."

I will-I swear it!

I was wrong-I admit it!

I let you leave, and, like a leaf in the fall,

I fell: fast to the ground instead of into your hands.

Voooohm!

The horn vibrates the air,

and shakes away the snares

Mobbing my meek mind,

freeing it in time

--just in time, to hear your train rumble

rumble

rumble inside my mind.

As the train drew near,

grey skies became clear;

the sun dried my tears;

and my doubts-clinging to my fear-

dripped on down the drain

'till all my pain had washed away.

Meet me by the train. I said over-and-over in my head

(it was my only hope to see you again).

I waited by the stop near your thoughts,

cold chills were all I caught.

I waited at the stop near your heart. . .

no sign of you. I feared I'd fall apart.

I tried the stop where your aching heart remained--

not even the rain could wash the stains from the heart I strained.

"Meet me near the train." I will--forever and always, I will.

I laid my body down, where the tracks of your heart met the tracks of your thoughts,

And closed my eyes to see us soaring in the sky,

With your hand in mine.

Voooohm!-the tracks shook my spine,

Sending ease into my mind.

-Voohm-Voohm!

"You know, I said by the train, not on it." I heard her say.

I opened my eyes and rays of light shone from her smile.

"It took you long enough. I...I couldn't leave without you."

I felt her gentle lips as she kissed mine.

Never again would I meet her by the train,

'Cause we were both on it...and I'd never get off.
