Time

My eyes: they watch the sand slowly

Fall,

Filling the once-empty glass bulb.

Shhhh...

Silence fills the room.

I flip it.

I watch the sand spiral down the narrow neck.

Time feels. . .slow.

--I didn't expect to grow

Old.

I watch one more long hour.

I see each speck of sand

Fall

Down,

Down,

Until there is no more.

--I flip it again

--I can't help myself.

This time, I watch the world outside.

Oh, how it moves so fast.

My aging eyes,

They can't

Keep

Up.

Yet my body,

It shifts

So slow.

Shhh. . .

The sand softly settles.

I flip the hourglass-might be my last time.

I waste no time

(I have none to waste).

I dash to the door.

I ignore the world.

Instead, I watch my family as they

Grow,

and it warms my heart.

I flip it, yet again.

Shh--

No time to watch the sand!

Now, time seems. . .still,

As eye watch you.

I watch every moment of you.

And it's perfect-you're perfect.

And I smile,

Knowing

I spent every, single

Speck of sand

With you.

Shhh. . . .
