Now...
Aaron shuts the book, and looks outside. He looks at the busy street, the people walking by, the cars that never seem to stop. He wonders, can he stop time? He looks at his Fastrack, the same Fastrack in which the second, minute and hour hands ticked slower than ever, but now time flows faster than his emotions, and it's not good, not good at all.
With that, Irina enters the room just as Aaron keeps the notebook away. He smiles, and she smiles back. They both stay silent for a moment, and Aaron realizes what this silence calls for.
Departure.
He narrows his eyes and smiles in pain. He feels it more than anyone. The journey comes to an end, and memories jut in and out of his mind, but he manages to control. Irina nods and starts packing her last stuff as Aaron goes to the bathroom.
Aaron comes out; alive from that premium shower experience in this hotel that he may never have again. He doesn't find Irina nearby, and doesn't look her up as he still has some packing to do. After a while, he checks the wardrobe, the bathroom and the bed-side for any leftovers. Once he doesn't find any, he tucks his shirt in and grabs the belt, when he raises his head slowly, frowning.
The notebook.
He looked everywhere for the left-overs, and the notebook should've been one of them. He tells himself to calm down, exhaling shaky breaths. His body feels like giving up already, but he isn't. He checks the window side very carefully, checks the sidetable and the drawers, even the wardrobe again. He checks under the sofa and the bed. It isn't there. Tears fill his eyes, and he is about to flip the bed in frustration, when Irina arrives.
''Aaron...why aren't you ready yet? Wait....anything wrong?''.
The first thing Aaron notices is not her, but her bag. Could she steal it?
When he finally gains his voice and composure, he replies.
'' Irina...I had a personal diary-like notebook. Maroon in color. Where is it?''.
The last sentence itself sounds horrific to Aaron, as if he's already accusing Irina .
Irina looks around, along with Aaron. After searching for it herself, Irina calls up a sudden group meeting and Aaron explains the notebook. He looks into Irina's eyes, and knows they don't lie. The other members of the group share the same expression. Zack joins in the search with Aaron and Irina. When it's about time they leave, Zack sympathetically puts his hands over Aaron's shoulder.
''Mate....I'm sorry....''.
Aaron is silently gasping. If anyone found out what they did together the last two nights, his whole world can go down. Judging by both the girls' and the boys' expressions, Aaron could probably state that none of them has it. Some part of him wants them all to open their luggage, but he dismisses it right away. They all meet Mr. Betton at the reception, where he does the checking-out formalities, looking around the majestic hotel as it's likely their last time here. Hotel staff were tipped, and proper goodbyes were given as they set off for the airport.
Anxiety overcomes sadness now, and Aaron wishes he carried the notebook to the bathroom, as desperation gets the best of him. He isn't feeling anything anymore; the fact that they are sitting in the same seats as before, and Irina holding Aaron's hand this time, the fact that San Francisco is escaping from them right before the window and he doesn't notice, the fact that he doesn't sing along with the rest of the gang as they fly away. When they are mid-air, Irina unbuckles her seat belt and sits beside Zack, when Ashley takes up her seat for a while, staring at the lost Aaron. She says, ''You still thinking about that notebook?''.
