Chapter XVII

LUKE

Using the map Wrath had given us, I was able to teleport with Chomata and Anastasia to a nearby desert. Wrath had given me a kit full of supplies to use for the quest. One of them was a pitcher of water, which Chomata immediately asked for.

About a minute or so after he took the water, Anastasia asked for it. Chomata replied, "Um, I can't exactly do that."

She raised one eyebrow at him, and turned her head towards him very slowly. "Chomata. Don't tell me you drank all of our water."

"Um... no comment there."

"YOU'RE DEAD!" Anastasia yelled, stomping towards him. I put a hand on her shoulder, and she took a deep breath and calmed down.

"Sorry. Let's continue," she muttered. She shot a fierce look at Chomata, and we began the trek again. Another few minutes later, and we came across some sort of village.

"According to this map, Wrath says the Rock of Doom is hidden somewhere in here. Let's give it a look," I told the others. Chomata and Anastasia nodded, and the three of us walked inside.

The village definitely had the feeling of a city back in the early 1900s. People were dressed up in that sort of fashion, walked on sidewalks, and there weren't many cars in the streets. Most of the buildings were large and brown, with plaques that had a generic font saying what the building was for. There were barber shops, clothes stores, factories, the general old business.

What interested us, however, was a crowd of people surrounding... something.

ANASTASIA

The crowd of people just so turned out to be surrounding a guy wearing a bunch of fancy jewelry around his neck. People ooh'd and ahh'd. I had to say, there were some impressive trinkets on there.

But the three of us had our eyes fixed on one thing, and one thing only.

A glowing rock dead center in the necklace he was wearing.

"I think we've found the Rock of Doom," Luke whispered.

"Ya think?" I retorted back. The man began talking once more, so we focused our attention back on him.

"Now, I love to be glamored and all, but I have a home to get to. Farewell, citizens," the man said, tipping his hat to the ladies. Then, smoothly, he hopped in his car and drove off towards a mansion.

"We're gonna follow him, aren't we?" I asked. Chomata and Luke had already sneaked off, so I went to find them. Hiding behind buildings and other stuff, the three of us followed the man to his mansion.

Once we reached his mansion, we all hid behind a tree and watched as the man jumped out of his car and walked up the stairs to his front door. He got a key out of his pocket and opened the door.

"COME ON!" Chomata hissed. He turned invisible and grabbed both Luke and I. Then we ran inside the front door. Chomata turned us visible again, and he shut the door quietly.

"This place is pretty fancy," I said, nodding my head as I glanced around the interior of the mansion.

"No distractions, guys. Let's follow that man until we get a chance to nab the rock," Luke instructed.

"Okay. Sorry," I said.

CHOMATA

Using my invisibility, I was able to sneak with Anastasia and Luke as we followed the man to a kitchen. He opened a secret door in the wall, placed his necklace in there, shut the door, and left.

"I'm going in," Luke told us, turning his arm into a sword once more. Quietly, he tiptoed into the kitchen and had his hand right on the door to open it.

Then a voice yelled, "STOP RIGHT THERE!"

Three men dressed as knights leaped into the room, all holding swords. Luke quickly put his hands up in the air as the three men moved in on him slowly.

"You're a little nuisance, aren't you? Trying to steal a valuable possession of our master's?" one of them said, drawing his sword closer to Luke.

"I-I only came here to-to look at it some more, sir," Luke fibbed, sounding too nervous. He tried to add in a smile, but the knights didn't buy it.

"Take him out," the tallest one growled.

Luke looked our way, and shouted, "ANASTASIA! CHOMATA!" I turned both of us visible and we leaped into battle.

"Wha-" the third knight sputtered before he received a crack to the jaw from Anastasia. Luke used his sword arm on the tall knight, and I used my electric bow and arrow on the third one.

We managed to take the tall knight out, but the other two grabbed ahold of Luke and I and wouldn't let go. But Anastasia just smiled. She then waved her hands in a various fashion...

And just like that, she had a sword in her hands. Which she used on both of the remaining knights to take them out. Once she was finished, she grinned at Luke and boasted, "So much for attracting atoms being a stupid idea, huh?"

"Oh, stuff a sock in it," Luke muttered.

At that moment, the man with the necklace rushed in, to find us three standing and his three knights on the ground, either dead or unconscious. His mouth hung open in shock, and then he shook his head, and quickly opened the secret door and grabbed the necklace. Then he made a break for it.

"HEY!" Luke yelled as we ran after him. I went invisible and ran ahead of the man, then reappeared right in front of him. Anastasia and Luke had him from behind, so the man was trapped.

"Get away from me, you thieves!" the man yelled.

"Look, we just want to borrow something from that necklace of yours-" I said, but the man brushed me aside, yelled, "I SAID, GET AWAY!" and made a break for the trees.

"Well, let's not just stand here! Go after him!" I ordered. And that's just what the three of us did.
