Chapter XX

SAM

Oh boy... my head. Wait, where am I? were my first thoughts upon waking up. I take a notice of my surroundings. A good majority of the objects around me are white, and I am laying down in a bed.

After making those observations, I rubbed my eyes to wake them up just a little more. I am in a hospital bed, and I am alone in one of the emergency rooms of a hospital. Why I was here, I couldn't put my finger on it. My mind was still very hazy.

I groaned softly and looked to my right, seeing a figure in a hospital bed right next to me.

"E-Elle?" I groaned softly. Then it all came back to me. The picnic, the bear, all of it.

Elle lay motionless, in the bed. A bandage was wrapped around her forehead and she had IVs in her arms. I was almost tempted to get out of the bed and walk over to her, but my whole body ached too much. I was barely able to crane my neck enough to see her without it hurting terribly.

However, I did notice Elle's eyes fluttering. She moaned quietly as she woke up as well, and looked right at me. "Hey there... Sam..." she said softly.

"How're you doing over there?" I asked, still a little groggy from the pain medication they likely gave me.

"Could be better," Elle responded. We both snickered a little bit.

"That bear... it was vicious," I mumbled, and Elle slowly nodded. "Yeah..."

At that point, two nurses, one male and one female, walked in. Along with them were Heath, Sean, and Shanna. All were amazed to see both of us awake.

"Uh, what's the big deal? I was just unconscious," I asked, still slightly confused.

"The doctors gave you a 35% chance for both of you to live that attack, and a 15% chance of no permanent brain damage for both of you," Shanna smiled.

"Does PTSD count as brain damage? Cause I think I might have that for a while," I joked. Everybody laughed. Once everyone was calm, I asked, "Can we go now?"

"As soon as we get in contact with your parents," the male nurse replied.

"Wait a sec- what state are we in?" Elle asked.

"Colorado."

"Um, that's kinda too far away from home for that to be possible..." Heath said sheepishly. "How about we tell our parents once we get home and you can take an IOU?"

"Fair enough," the lady nurse smiled.

Once we left the hospital, Sam turned around, closed his eyes for a second, and then opened them again, all with a grin on his face.

"What did you just do?" I asked.

"I may or may not have sent a signal to the hospital that erased their memories of anything relating to us," Sam smirked.

"Sam!" Shanna moaned. Sean laughed and told Shanna, "Hey, look on the bright side: Now our parents don't have to pay for us."

"True," she shrugged. "But that was still dumb of you to do."

"What was dumb for Sam to do?" Luke's voice said from afar. We all turned to see Luke, Anastasia, and Chomata walking towards us proudly. "Well? Did you get the Rock of Doom?" I asked.

All Luke had to do was hold the rock up in triumph. All of us whooped. Luke said to us, "Yeah. Wasn't even that hard. Some guy had it on his necklace to look fancy."
