Kaito had returned home after that discovery, with Pandora's remains. The dust of the accursed gem that had sent them there. Kaito knew that it could possibly be the key to send them home, so he had carefully removed the dust from the hole, and set off home, watching his back as he walked. His mind was racing, and he couldn't help but smile for the first time since Gin. Slightly more cheery, he skipped back home, cheerful facade in place - yet it wasn't just a facade. There was something real in there too. Hope, and the promise of happiness. For who, he didn't know.———
Shinichi was sipping some coffee peacefully when Kaito came bursting inside, panting from exertion. Shinichi looks up sharply, startled, almost spilling his coffee in his haste. "Kaito? Did something happen?!" Concern marred the detective's face, searching Kaito's for any hint or emotion. All he could find was pure, genuine, hope and happiness.
Shinichi blinked, confused. "Yeah, I found Pandora's remains where we first came into this world. I gathered it - do you think you could identify what it could do?" Kaito lifts up a baggie of a mystifying purple-colored pile of dust. Shinichi looked at it - dumbfounded. "I could try, but aren't you better at science than I am?" Kaito shrugs. "I wouldn't know how to identify something's components based on a simple powder. Besides - aren't you the detective? You're good at unraveling mysteries." Kaito reasoned.
Shinichi sighs. "I probably could - being friends with Haibara Ai would mean I would have to pick up some science know-how sometime along the line." Shinichi goes and grabs his coat and bag. Kaito frowns - confused. "Where are you going?"
Shinichi looks at him with an, 'are you serious' look, which made him realize - we don't have the supplies to actually examine it. Kaito felt incredibly stupid. Shinichi must have noticed something in his expression, because he snorts and shakes his head, blue eyes sparkling with amusement, before fishing the keys out of their hiding place, and left, giving him a parting smile. Kaito sighs, and heads back out to the local library to get a bunch of science books - it might become necessary knowledge.

The duo had returned, and set up all the equipment (well, Shinichi did, Kaito just watched him out of the corner of his eye as he pored over one of the many books he took out), and once ready, began analyzing the shimmering powder. He had hooked up a computer to take notes and research anything that would be foreign to him. Which shouldn't be an issue, but Kaito insisted, saying that this was a different world, we don't know what's possible here.
Shinichi, rather than admitting Kaito was right verbally, reluctantly added the software, still not quite convinced.

The compound began reacting, Shinichi took some notes.-beep-
He noticed something unusual - was that supposed to do that?
-beep-
Unidentified popped up on the computer screen, and confusion gave way to slight annoyance (because Kaito was right, and because he'd have to search the internet for any sign of this strange component) Kaito took over - monitoring the new substance particles and noting everything and anything about the substance.

Shinichi ran the results of his test through the computer, and found a strange classified document. He just managed to hack into that, but knew that he didn't have much time before he'd be found. So, he began rapidly taking screenshots of everything - and soon enough, he was found and kicked off forcefully, his entire web browser closing, his history being deleted and his software damaged. He huffed, but all annoyance was soon forgotten as he skimmed the documents.
-beep-
Apparently this new substance, anti-matter [-], as they'd called it, had the ability to counter the effects of anti-matter, a matter that had been created in Yanagisawa's lab. Really, it was the cure that could save the world - and cure the test subject's condition.
Slightly disappointed, but happy he could do good, Shinichi decided to do some researching. He calculated the effect of water against the substance, and luckily, it would have no effect. Kaito, still at his post, looked over his shoulder at Shinichi. "Did you figure something out?" The magician asked, curious. "Yeah, but it's not something that can get us back to our world. It can, however, counteract the effects of anti-matter, which would save this world." Shinichi hands Kaito his notebook with all the information on the matter, and let him digest the situation, while he prepared the liquid form of the cure.
After having read the book, Kaito understood the situation. He shrugs, disappointed, but still happy he could save lives, like Shinichi. He cast a cursory glance at his now-occupied boyfriend. He heaves a sigh, and starts picking up the makeshift laboratory. He was careful with everything, and wouldn't want to waste money if everything broke. Really, while money wasn't an issue at this point in time, it still wasn't wise to waste money. So he packed everything away very carefully, and stored them in the corner of their (as Kaito called it, a conspiracy den) information and security room.
When he went back out of the room, he noticed that Shinichi had finished the cure, and was setting out to go deliver it. Kaito surprises him (not too much, lest he drop the vial) by wrapping his arms around his neck, and kissed him slowly. "Be careful." He whispered, smiling. Shinichi nods, and sets out.
He knew where he needed to go (thanks to the documents), and hastened at the sight of the darkening sky, not wanting to be out at night. He shifted through the shadows of the trees, silently slipping through the undergrowth (being a temporary member, more so an accomplice, of the FBI, being chased by a criminal organization, along with living with a goddamn thief of all things had helped with his stealth) quietly. He smirked as he saw the classroom come in his sights. What he frowned at, however, was the stiff military man (Tadomi Karasuma, the documents had stated) standing in front of the classroom. Narrowing his eyes in slight annoyance, he watches the figure.
After seeing no signs of the man leaving, Shinichi sighs and pulls out his watch, loaded with sedatives in the form of a needle. He quickly shot something at the man, and darted in, set the vial down carefully, and darted back out, careful to not wake the sleeping agent. Making sure no traces of himself were left on the scene, he left, smiling and humming "Nazo" happily to himself as he strolled back home, hand warily by where his gun was hidden, looking behind his back periodically.
