Nolan had decided to have a little picnic for Carter's sixth birthday. Her birthday was during spring and the night of her birthday was the perfect. They'd decide to have it under the stars and after, they'd watch Carter's favorite movies on a projector.
Carter was excited, bouncing up and down on her pink princess blanket that Nolan had laid out for her. Nolan sat behind her, his arms curled around her waist as he watched James set up the projector. He would have done it himself but James hadn't shut up about how it was his projector.
Nolan could have bought one just to make James feel like shit but decided against it.
Though excited, Carter couldn't help feel upset that Miles was not here yet. And as more time went on, the less she bounced and the more her lips pulled into a pout. Noticing her mood, Nolan pulled Carter onto his lap and laid a kiss against her forehead, "What's wrong, princess?"
"I want Miles." Carter whined, glancing over Nolan's shoulder to scan around the backyard of their house as if she would be able to spot Miles mop of hair.
Nolan sighed, "He's coming, baby. There's just shitty traffic."
Carter nodded, not really paying attention since all she really cared about was where her best friend was. She was going to have a series talk with him about coming to her parties on time.
Crawling from Nolan's lap, Carter ran over to Abbie who was pulling a hoodie over her son's head. It wasn't chilly out but Abbie feared Joshua would catch a cold. Especially when he'd had the sniffles this morning.
Abbie mentally cursed Porter for not immediately drying Joshua's hair after he'd showered. Abbie ran her hand through Joshua's hair, lightly untangling the curls before smiling own at her son who pouted up at her. His small year old face scrunched up and she cupped his cheeks, placed a small kiss against his lips before patting his bottom and shooing him off to play with Carter who yelled for his attention.
Josh stood up on shaking legs, running over to his cousin who held her arm open for him.

Miles hadn't stopped screaming, Carter's gift clutched tightly in his arms as he glanced outside of the car. They were surrounded by cars and were extremely late for Carter's picnic and Miles felt his heart breaking.
He hated to upset Carter and he knew that if he was late, Carter would be angry at him. He was always the first one to wish her, other then Nolan. He always pulled all nighters for Carter's birthday much to his parents dismay. And at midnight, he'd immediately call Nolan, screaming to speak to Carter.
And like the asshole Nolan was, he'd wish Carter first even, with the phone to his lips so Miles could hear him wish her first.
Maggie sighed, "Miles isn't going to stop screaming until we get there."
Landon rolled his eyes, "I know but we're almost there." Glancing up, Landon sent Miles an annoyed look through the rear view mirror, "Miles, if you keep screaming, you'll lose your voice and be unable to wish Carter happy birthday."
Miles immediately shut up and glanced down at the gift in his hands. He wondered if she'd like the palette he'd gotten her. He knew Nolan was going to hate it but that wasn't Miles problem.
Carter loved makeup and Miles loved Carter. He'd get her anything she wanted. Even if she wanted to play with the makeup on his innocent face.
Landon smiled, satisfied that Miles had shut up and turned to Maggie who shook her head, amused. "They're really obsessed with each other."
Landon snorted, "I wouldn't say obsessed, they just love each other's presence."
Maggie smiled, "I bet you ten dollars that Carter's going to convince Nolan to let Miles sleep over."
Landon chuckled, "I ain't betting nothing, we already know he's sleeping over. I packed him an over night bag for a reason."
Maggie giggled, shaking her head and turned to look over her shoulder towards Miles, "You excited to see Carter?"
Miles immediately nodded, "I miss her so much! I can't wait to give her my present. She's going to be so happy!"
Maggie smiled, her heart warming at the amount love Miles held for Carter in his voice. Though she feared they were young, she was blessed to know her son might have found his soul mate so young.
Maggie didn't think she'd have issues with her son being a player when he's older. Carter would make sure of it.

Carter had been curled up in Nolan's arms, gazing up at the sun setting when Miles had arrived. He hadn't made a sound, walking over to her silently and as she watched the beautiful sight, Miles had stood over her and smiled that pretty smile of his and suddenly, the sun set wasn't the most beautiful thing she saw.
She enjoyed the view of Miles much more then the view of the orange pink sky. She'd immediately sat up, her anger about him being late forgotten as she pulled him down into a hug. Her smiled brightening as Miles hugged her back, wishing her softly in her ear. And when he'd leaned away, he'd kissed her cheek and held out her present to her.
But Carter didn't care about the present, all she wanted was for Miles to sit next to her and watch the stars with him by her side. Noticing this, Abbie took the gift while Carter thanked him.
Taking a hold of Miles hand, Carter tugged him down and turned to Nolan who was blocking the space she had saved for Miles.
Nolan rolled his eyes, standing up as he grumbled. He didn't think he'd ever get used to Carter ditching him for Miles. Maybe it was because he selfishly wished he'd always be the most important man in her life.
Nolan walked over to the speaker James had also set up and switched it on before connecting the speaker to his cell phone. Scrolling through his music, he selected a few of Carter's favorite acoustic songs before playing it and with a small smile.
He watched as Carter stood, pulling Miles with her and wrapped her arms around his waist and slowly twirled them. Both of them giggling softly as they danced until the sun set.
Nolan might hate the idea of Miles and Carter together but he knew he'd never have to worry about Miles hurting her.
Because like him, Miles loved her with his whole heart.
