"Please don't!" Carter screeched at the top of her lungs, her arms shivering as she tried to push the teasing boy away. Miles only cackled, arms wrapping around Carter's waist to pick her up and walk closer to the edge of the pool. Ready to throw her in as she begged him not too.
"Milo!" Carter called out before Miles let her go and she went falling into the deep side of the pool. She surfaced quickly after, glaring up at Miles through blurry eyes as he jumped up and down in laughter.
His laughter didn't last long as Nolan had come up behind him and pushed him forward, "Don't throw princess into the water again."
Miles chuckled nervously after he'd surfaced from the water and padded over to Carter who splashed him with water and swam away. Her eyes locked on Joshua, her baby cousin who was playing on the steps of the pool since he couldn't swim yet.
Miles pouted, clearly upset that Carter had avoided him and padded over to the edge of the pool where his father stood. A beer in his hand as he spoke to Nolan, "What did you want to tell me?"
Landon smiled, shaking his head, "I'll tell you later. It's kind of an announcement."
Nolan's eyebrows rose, a small smirk coming to his lips as if he already knew what the announcement was going to be. Miles glanced between the two confused before padding over to Carter who was trying to teach Joshua how to swim.
Though he wasn't showing her much attention, he was more interested in his father who was sitting at the edge of the pool. Watching him.
Miles came up next to Carter, his arms wrapping around her waist in an innocent hug. "Sorry for pushing you in the pool. It wasn't funny."
Carter rolled her eyes, knowing she was about to forgive him and turned around in his arms. Her small finger poking at his chest. Miles whined at the pain that followed, "It was a little funny but I said no, and no means no!"
Miles nodded his head, before grinning, "You want to pretend to be the mermaid and I, the shark?"
Carter giggled, nodding her head as she dived into the water. Miles smiled, happy Carter was no longer ignoring him and raised his hands above his head together to make a fin and dived after her.

Miles didn't really believe that you got stomach aches if you swam straight after you ate but Nolan had drilled the idea so far into Carter's pretty head that she refused to swim.
Miles rolled his eyes, all she'd eaten was a slice of pizza that he had to finish because she got full half way through. He knew she wasn't full though, she thought if she ate less, the less time she'd have to wait to get into the water.
Pulling the towel closer around Carter's shivering shoulder, Miles settled down next to her. But not before he received a huge smile from Nolan who had witnessed Miles trying to warm Carter up.
Miles was sure the man was drunk, he never smiled that big at him.
Miles sent Nolan a wide eyed look before turning to his mother who was busy stuffing her face with pizza. Landon eyed his wife with a small smile before turning to everyone who was also eating.
"I guess it's time for that announcement."
Maggie gasped, placing down her slice to stand next to Landon. Wrapping an arm around his wife, he smiled widely. Looking from face to face.
Miles shrugged, turning to Carter when he heard her teeth clattering. "You know, if you didn't believe the lies about cramps that Nolan tells you, you'd be warm in the pool."
Carter turned towards Miles with a scowl, "I'm not going to die because the pool is warm and I'm cold! Daddy said I can sit for five more minutes."
Miles rolled his eyes, "Nolan didn't wait thirty minutes before he jumped in the pool."
Carter gaped towards Miles, thinking of a logical explanation as to why Nolan could go in the pool before them before huffing, "Well, daddy's big and I'm small."
Miles snorted, "Fine, we'll wait but the minute we get into the pool...I'm going to take you down! The sharks hungry!"
Carter giggled, "You just ate pizza!"
Miles smiled, "Miles ate pizza. The shark wants mermaid food."
Carter giggled again, leaning against Miles as she laughed, "You're so funny."
Miles smirked, buzzing with happiness at Carter's compliment until his father's voice floated towards his ears.
"We're pregnant!"
Miles eyes widened before turning to Carter who gasped loudly before cheering. A bright smile lighting up at her face as she jumped up and down, running up to Maggie to congratulate her while Miles frowned.
He didn't want a sibling. He was perfectly happy with Carter and Joshua.
Miles frowned deepened, what if he had a sister? Miles shivered, Carter would play with her instead of him. What if he had a brother? Carter might think he's cuter!
Miles cried out to himself, before raising his head to look up at his father who gazed down at him with a sad expression. "You happy, bud?"
"Why couldn't you keep it in your pants?!" Miles cried out, ignoring Maggie who giggled as she watched Miles.
Landon chuckled, "Your mother's quite the seducer."
Miles looked up at his father horrified, cringing slightly in the spot before turning to Carter who was standing in front of Maggie. Gazing at her stomach with wide eyes and Miles frowned, she was already obsessed with the baby and it wasn't even born yet.
"The five minutes are up!" Miles shouted, running up to Carter. Wrapping a hand around her arm, he pulled her towards the pool. Ignoring Landon who called out for him.
