The moment she heard the door shut behind him as he left, she went to the window of her room where she peeked out behind the curtains seeing him look up at her and give a small wave then a blow of a kiss making her blush just as much as she would if he was actually kissing her. Kat forced a smile, something she was all too good at. With years of practice pretending everything was okay, she had become somewhat of a master at it.
Jake, looking satisfyingly convinced by her safe in the house smiling he stepped inside the car before carefully pulling out of the driveway then driving out down the street. When he disappeared from sight, Kat began to pack. She grabbed her backpack where she had left it on the floor by her door, she turned it upside down shaking all the contents out onto the floor making them scatter everywhere. With her mind reeling and her hands attempting to work just as fast, she stuffed clothes and other essentials into the now empty bag.
Toiletries, toothbrush and toothpaste, she even ripped the sheets off her bed and put them into the bag as well. She didn't even notice the tears streaking her face until she realized the small droplets on her shirt. Sniffing, she sat on the bed looking down at her hands. She had to go back...to that hell hole. The last place she wanted to go, but she had to do the right thing by Jake and keep him out of dangers way.He took her in when she thought there was no way out, he did things for her that she would never be able to repay him for. Kat looked up and around the room with a soft sigh, she knew if she stayed there crying then she may change her mind and she couldn't risk that, so she swung the backpack's strap over her shoulder and walked out not looking back. To say the least, the walk home was a long one and definitely not enjoyable.
It felt like a slave's walk away from freedom and back to a dungeon where she knew she would never be able to leave again. She especially tried not to think of how badly punished she would be though that was the only worried thoughts that circled her mind. Her house came into view and with a heavy sigh of reluctance she went to the door and swung it open.
Silence. A strong complete silence filled the house as she stepped inside though the sound of silence was not near as strong as the smell of alcohol that filled her nostrils. Kat crinkled her nose closing the door softly behind her as she stepped inside with her body in a defensive position as she awaited what would happen next which she didn't expect to be a nice big warm welcome. Her eyes scanned the room before soon falling on her dad who was passed out on the couch with empty beer bottles surrounding him. Then her eyes glanced down the hall longingly where she could see her bedroom door...If she could just make it inside that room then she would be somewhat safe or at least safer than she was out here.
Tip toeing, she slowly made her way past the couch and down the hall. Hope was filling her that she could actually make it to her room without waking her dad, but that hope was quickly replaced by fear when a deep gruff voice came from behind her, "You're back." She froze a few steps away from her door and stood there silent deciding it was best to say nothing prompting her dad to just get to the yelling quicker which she knew would be coming, but it didn't. The yelling didn't come and the silence did. Her father nor her said a single word and she didn't want to turn to meet his eyes which she could feel watching her back and probably a little lower than that as well.
The silence didn't last long though and it was broken just as the beer bottle was that he threw at her head. It missed her by a few feet and the glass shattered all over the floor not touching her. Thank gosh he was drunk, she never thought she would think that. Knowing the broken bottle was just the beginning, she rushed the last few steps to her room where she ran inside them slammed the door shut locking herself inside. With tears building in her eyes threatening to spill over and her feet now cut from stepping on the glass, she had never felt more trapped and fearful in her whole life. She had hope given by Jake which had been too good to last and now her hope was ripped from her, she was back in her home locked in her room too afraid to step out and face her father who was now screaming at her through the door.
The first tear slipped down her face then another and another until she was crying, she didn't want to process the words he was yelling at her though she caught a few like, 'Bitch' and 'Whore just like your mom', she crawled into her bed curling into a fetal position before pushing a pillow over her head trying to block it all out, but hours passed and finally he stopped screaming. Kat stayed in that position for a long time though until a sharp pain suddenly reminded her of the glass in her feet.
Taking tweezers from her bedside table drawer, she took out the broken pieces bit by bit whimpering softly every once in a while. She jabbed herself as she jumped upon hearing the sound of a tap on her window, she looked over taking deep breaths afraid of who she may see when she looked out into the darkness, but to her astonishment it was Jake. Kat placed the tweezers on the bed and limped over looking outside at him, his face was pale as he locked eyes with her. With little hesitation, she opened the window soundlessly and pulled him close smashing her lips to his in a deep passionate kiss. She felt Jake pull her close before parting his lips from hers though he still held her close keeping their faces centimeters apart, "Kat!" He breathed across her face and she couldn't help, but smile. "What the hell were you thinking?" He hissed at her looking angry yet all the same his eyes were full of love and relief. "I was thinking of you." She whispered looking down feeling some guilt at how she must have made him feel when he returned from school not to find her there. His hand cupped her chin lifting it so their eyes once again met, "Are you okay?"
Oh, what a question. A question Kat couldn't tell the truth to or he would become even more worried about her, "Yes, but you won't be if you stay here." She said pushing at his shoulders to make him leave, but he didn't budge. "I'm not going anywhere that you aren't." He stated. Gosh he was stubborn which made her want to kiss him and hit him all at the same time. A light laugh escaped her lips, the kind of laugh only he could make her do. "I'll see you at school." She glanced over her shoulder to see the door still locked and closed.
Jake shook his head climbing in through the window making her eyes widen, "What are you doing?" She grabbed his wrist and he smirked slightly pulling her body into his, "I'm staying here for the night...if thats okay." Kat shook her head, "Of course its not okay!" This made him look hurt and so she corrected herself, "I mean, my dad could catch you in here and then we'd both be screwed." She sighed crossing her arms over her chest and taking a small step away from him.
Suddenly, her body was scooped up into his arms and she was carried to bed where he lied her down then positioned himself on top of her where his hips were straddling hers. Kat blushed hard, "Jake..." She started off resistant thinking of her dad, but he gently caressed her face in reassurance as he spoke soothingly, "Its okay. I love you." He looked in her eyes and she nodded, "Just hold me." She said and thats what he did. Soon enough, they both fell asleep.
