Listen, this isn't going to be in the same format as the other analysis' I'm doing but this is my complete opinion on Max in season three.
Listen, A lot of people enjoy Max's character and her in the season, I am not one of those people. And a lot of my friends don't like her either.
Max was manipulative and rude, and I personally do not like her character whatsoever.
IF YOU LIKE MAX THIS IS YOUR CUE TO LEAVE AND NOT READ THIS BECAUSE THIS WILL BE ME EXPLAINING WHY I STRONGLY DISLIKE HER.
I DO NOT WANT HATE FOR HAVING AN OPINION AND I AM NOT HATING ON ANYBODY'S OPINION AT ALL!!!
You like Max? Good for you, I don't.
Alright now that that's out of the way let's get into the intro, yeah? Cool.
Max has never been a character who I enjoy. I didn't like her in season two either. At first I thought she'd be cool but by the end of the season I believed she tried to hard to be cool.
And by the end of season three, it sucks to say I hate Max. Listen, I love Sadie, I have nothing against her; however Max's character this season is awful.
Personally, I am a feminist. I have a strong belief that women and men are equal and we should all get equal rights in everything. Whether it be education, or equality in the workplace (like Nancy's arc at the Hawkins post).
I loved Nancy's arc of feminism. How she attempted to overcome sexism in the workplace. I commend her for her strength against Bruce and Tom.
However, Max is the type of feminist who thinks that every single man in the world is a misogynistic and sexist person. The type who believes every man believes he has the right to control women.
It makes me upset that Max decides to dump Lucas every single time they get in an argument or have an issue, only to get back with him because he gets her a gift. If they broke up it wouldn't shock me, and Lucas deserves somebody who'll care about him and want to get past fighting.
I get it, Max grew up in a household filled with toxic men, that sucks and that can be a reason for the way she thinks. But, that doesn't excuse the fact that she knows Lucas isn't that way and he treats her like a goddamn queen only to get treated like shit she stepped in.
El grew up with one father figure in a lab who ran experiments on her constantly, she obviously had some trust issues, but she learned to get past them. Mike and her didn't have arguments very often and they seemed to get past them until Max stepped in.
I am not mad at all at El for going to Max. She's the only other girl El's age with a boyfriend that she knows of, and if I were in that situation I'd go straight to Max.
But the advice Max gave El was advice for her situation with Lucas. It pisses me off so fucking much that she thinks that every relationship and argument can be resolved with "break up, get gifts, get back together." Because that isn't how relationships are supposed to work.
I mean, in middle school, that is essentially how they work. I don't get how any other characters in the series haven't seen that Mike and El's relationship is nothing like regular middle school relationships.
The trust they have in each other, everything.
Max saying that El should dump Mike's ass if he doesn't explain himself pisses me off. El didn't even get to know what happened and why he lied before because she just took Max's advice.
MAX ASKING MIKE IF EL IS HIS PET MADE ME WANT TO THROW MY LAPTOP OKAY? NO. SHE ISN'T HIS GODDAMN PET AND HE HAS SAID THAT SO MANY FUCKING TIMES MAX.
