"(Y-Y/N)?" Peter exclaimed confused.
"Um... Hi?" I said looking at May.
"I'll give you two some privacy," May said standing up and giving me a thumbs up as a good luck before proceeding down the hallway.
"What are you doing here?" He said before beginning to ramble, "I mean not that it's a bad thing, I mean it's great to see you. I just-"
I cut him off, "Peter, I have something to tell you."
His eyes, once filled with confusion, softened as he nodded and walk over to sit next to me on the couch, "Anything you need."
"Okay, well. I need you to keep it a secret." I said.
Very similar to May, Peter nodded.
"Like no one can no. Not even Ned."
He nodded again, "You're pregnant."
I shook my head, "No! What?"
He laughed, "I was trying to lighten the mood."
"Why?" I tilted my head.
"Because you seem tense." He paused waiting for an answer and when I didn't give one he continued, "There's no need to be tense. It's just me, the same old Peter Parker that you're tutoring because he's too awkward to talk to a girl. It's just me and you."
"Okay then," I took a deep breath in, "I'm Tony Stark's daughter."
It took a second for him to react, "Really?"
"Don't act so surprised." I said a hint of sarcasm in my voice, "Your reaction, it's fake."
"What-what?" Peter stuttered, "No it's not."
"You hesitated."
"Did not."
"Your reaction was delayed," I paused, "Almost as if you knew." The puzzle pieces were falling into place.
"H-how would I-I know?" Peter's eyes filled with worry.
"Holy shit." That's when they clicked and everything made sense, "Because you're Spider-Man."
"What?" Peter said, taken aback, "No-no-no, I'm not."
"I have to go." I said just above a whisper, as I recalled all the things I'd talked to Spider-Man on my roof. I grabbed my phone off the coffee table and grabbed my converse and ran out the door.
He knew the whole time. He knew the whole time. He knew the whole time. I thought, Is that why he befriended me in the first place? Because my dad told him to protect me?
When I got to the lobby I put my shoes on and as I was tying my shoes I stood up and left not waiting to see if Peter would chase after me.
As I walked down the street I heard something from overhead. I looked up just in time to see Spider-Man, I mean, Peter land in front of me.
"What?" I said, "You want to spy on me more dressed as your alter ego."
"No," Peter said, his voice was so obviously his, "I came to make sure you got home alright."
I walked in front of a cafe that was closing before stopping, "No."
"Come on," Peter's voice had gentleness that if I had heard under different circumstances I would've obeyed every command to, "Please. Let me take you home."
"I can't," I paused, "I called Happy and told him to meet me here."
His eyes widened.
"Oh, yeah you know Happy right."
He nodded, "Look-"
"I don't want to talk. And especially not to you, not right now."
Silence. And that was everything until Happy pulled up on the corner.
"Bye," I muttered.
"Bye," Peter's voice was soft and defeated. I instantly felt bad and I wanted to give him a hug and forgive him and tell him everything was okay. But it wasn't.
(Time Skip to the next day at Lunch)
I searched for a new place to sit at lunch, somewhere where I didn't have to remember that Peter was Spider-Man and Spider-Man knew my secrets, almost all of them. Vinnie waved at me to go sit by them, and as I made eye contact with Peter I decided I'd eat lunch in the library. I'd successfully avoided Peter, Ned and Vinnie so far, why ruin my streak.
After I'd eaten hafld of my lunch I heard Vinnie enter the library, she sat down in front of me, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
"Come on, something's obviously wrong."
"Okay something is wrong. I don't want to talk about it."
"Is it Peter?"
"No."
"It totally is, what's happened?"
The bell rang signaling to go to 4th period. I collected my trash and books, "Now we've talked about it more than I wanted to in the first place."
I left to class.
I couldn't focus so I decided a drink or a walk in the hallway might do the trick, I got the hall pass and went down the hallway.
That's when I heard him, Peter talking to none other than Liz Allen. I froze.
"Especially because I like," Don't say it, "You." Peter confessed.
Everything went by in a blur and before you knew it he had asked and she had said yes.
You should've been extatic, right? Over the moon, you'd achieved your goal. Mission accomplished. But it didn't feel like it. A pit had formed in your stomach and a lump in the back of your throat. You wanted to cry and throw up at the same time. Turns out your feelings for Peter weren't platonic, you wanted him to take you to the dance, to hold your hand, to hold you, to kiss you. But that was all in your head. You didn't realize how much you wanted that how much you felt for Peter until he was no longer there for the taking.
(Peter's POV)
"You-you wanna go with me?" I'd asked, nervously.
"Yeah," Liz smiled, "Sure." She chuckled.
I began to back up when I realized, "Class is this way," I pointed in front of me, as a tinge of embarrassment floated to my face.
I walked down the hall a smile evident on my face, a smile that quickly faded as I turned down the corner and saw (Y/N). She looked a mess.
Her (Y/H/C) in a messy bun, strands of it sticking out in every direction. Her expertly painted nails the only part of her hand visible underneath her gray MidTown sweatshirt, in one hand she held a hallpass. Her mascara running down her cheeks with her salty tears.
And yet she was still gorgeous.
As the image before me processed a wave of emotion, rage, regret and sorrow. Who did this to her? And then I realized, it was me.
