Chapter 4
Meeting BrianFreddie, Roger and Tim sat quietly beside one another on the couch, bowing their heads down apologetically. The three friends winced as they received a scolding from Brian with his hands perched on his hips, staring them down.
Maya was grateful that Brian arrived when he did. She wasn't quite sure how to intercept the wrestling pile on Roger's bed. The fight wasn't too hectic until Freddie decided to jump in. Although nobody was severely hurt, Freddie's part in the tumble resulted in the three of them needing ice to remedy their pain. Roger with a bag of frozen peas against his forehead, Tim with a frozen steak against his jaw, and Freddie with an ice pack against his shoulder.
"Sorry..." Freddie and Tim mumbled in unison, pressured under Brian's harsh stare.
Brian shifted his eyes to Roger, raising his eyebrows after Roger remained silent. "Don't you have something to say, Rog?"
"What have I got to be sorry for?" Roger frowned in irritation. "I'm the victim here."
"Roger, you must've scared the poor girl." Brian asserted. Brian turned and paused from lecturing the three friends momentarily. "I'm Brian, by the way. I've heard so much about you, Maya. It's a pleasure to finally meet you." He smiled warmly, taking Maya's hand in his and shaking it firmly. While they both teamed up to avert the situation, they hadn't gotten a chance to properly introduce one another. After Maya smiled back, Brian abruptly turned his attention back to Roger, switching back to his strict demeanour.
"Roger, we're waiting."
"Well, yes, I am sorry, Maya, but these two failed to tell me that you were staying in my room while I was away." Roger exclaimed, gesturing to his mildly bruised friends.
"Be that as it may, Rog. You didn't notice someone else already sleeping in that bed before you stripped and threw yourself on it?"
"I was blind drunk!" Roger threw down the bag of frozen peas in frustration. "Besides, I should be the one getting a damn apology. I was waiting for hours for Tim to pick me up from the station."
"You weren't supposed to come back until next week." Tim groaned defensively.
"I told you it would be Wednesday!"
"No, you said 'next week'."
"Yes, I said 'next week' last week, you div." Roger spat. "That meant yesterday. How daft can you-"
"Enough, Roger." Brian snapped. "So... is that everything cleared up?" He turned to Maya.
"Yes, I think so." Maya said with slight uncertainty. She believed she clarified every misunderstanding this morning to them, but something in her gut told her that there was still an unfinished discussion.
