Chapter 11
Something Better
"Well, that was absolute dog shit!"
Roger muffled a deafening groan as he kicked the nearby bins in frustration. Brian, equally disappointed, ran his hands tiresomely over his face, muttering curses to himself.
Mary, Rosemary, John and Maya exchanged concerned looks as they followed the boys out the back door after a set that wasn't quite their best.
Mary walked over to Brian to console him, placing a comforting hand across his cheek and levelling her eyes with his. His breaths became steadier as he looked back at her. "It wasn't so bad, Brian."
Brian took Mary's hand in his and gave a small grateful smile. "You think so?"
"It wasn't terrible, it was..."
"Absolute dog shit!" Freddie burst out through the door, wide-eyed in horror. "That was awful. You all must feel like absolute shit."
"Thanks, Fred." Brian's face dropped.
"I would just self-combust and die if I put on a show like that."
"We get it, Fred."
"I would die-"
"We get it!" Brian, Maya and Roger chorused.
Rosemary followed behind Freddie with shot glasses in one hand and a bottle of vodka in another. "Here we are, boys! Liquid anaesthesia."
"Gimme." Roger bolted towards Rosemary. Tapping his foot impatiently, he waited for Rosemary to pour the shots. "Where the fuck is Tim?"
They all looked to Maya, who greeted their stares with a confused look. "I have no idea." She shrugged coyly.
Rosemary and Freddie exchanged raised eyebrows.
"What? What was that?" Maya said, squinting at the pair.
"What's going on with you two?" Freddie shook his head at his sister's oblivion.
"What do you mean?"
"The man leaves you late at night, you don't see him until the morning at which point he passes out. You're out all day and by the time you get home, he's on his way out."
John chimed in. "The strange part is that you're not at all curious where he goes. Or suspicious."
"Suspicious of what?" Maya scoffed.
"Let's just say..." Rosemary hooked her arm around Freddie, giving him a teasingly threatening glare. "If my man went out every night instead of coming to bed with me, I'd stop at nothing to find out what- or who exactly has grabbed his attention over me."
