The 100 Walks with the Dead

Chapter 8

Sitting on a pile of logs, Raven watched as her fellow mechanics went to work making the equipment for the execution, hearing a noise close by, she looks over and sees Daryl sit next to her, he stays quiet and just watches with her. Raven moves closer and leaned her head on his shoulder as they sit in comfortable silence.

Looking down at Raven, Daryl breaks the silence, "yeh 'ight wit' the sentence?" He asks.

"Yes, the prick deserved more then what he's getting." She says looking up at him for a moment before looking back at the work being done.

"Do yeh know when yer brace will be finished?" Daryl asks, trying to start up a conversation.

"They wanted to put a rush on it, but I wanted to see that man fry more than I wanted to walk, so in a bout a week or two." She says with venom at the mention of 'him'.

Grunting in response Daryl stays quiet as they watch the crew work.

Through the night, Shane listens to sounds banging around, knowing he'll be dead soon. This gave him time to reflect on his past. The man knew he screwed up, there was no denying it. He screwed up royally. There was so much anger inside that he lost it. This new world broke the man he used to be. Now though, now he will be nothing but a bitter memory. Sighing, Shane looks out of the small window in his cell, overlooking the crew working. They were putting up a metal X stand in the middle of everything. Guessing he would have people watch.

Once dawn hit, Rick and Bellamy meet up with the Tech crew and start setting up to bring Shane out. Walking to the holding cell, Rick spots Raven and Daryl sitting on a lumber pile. He ways them over so he can ask Raven a question. Daryl picks Raven up and carries her over.

"Raven, we're about to bring him out, I gotta ask, do you want to be here for this or do you want Daryl to take you somewhere else?" He asks.

"Nah, I want to electrify his nuts." She tells him, the need for vengeance strong in her words.

Nodding, Rick leaves for a few minutes, coming back with what looks like a cattle prod. "Here you go, Once you do what you need to, I want you to go sleep." Rick says hands the device to Raven.

Daryl nods and takes Raven to the cross, setting her down before looking for a chair for her to be more comfortable. Raven moves to the chair and waits for the scum bag to be brought out. After settling Raven, Daryl goes with Rick to bring Shane out. Bellamy and Roan were waiting for them when they get to the holding cells and they enter. Bellamy opens the cell while Roan and Daryl go in to secure Shane before Rick walks behind him to cuff him. The four men exit the cells with Shane in tow. The closer they got, Shane starts to struggle and get away, Roan punches him in the gut stopping his moments before they get to the cross. Bellamy and Daryl move to one side while Rick and Roan uncuff Shane, shoving him onto the cross so they could strap him in.

Raven sits quietly watching before Shane catches her gaze. She smirks and lifts the prod into his line of sight, sending him a wink before The four men step back. Daryl moves to Raven to help her stand. "Jus' lean on me when you need" He says, keeping a hand on her lower back to help steady her.

"Shane Walsh, you are being executed for the crimes commited to Raven Reyes, any last words?" Rick says, standing next to Raven.

"Yeah, I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't kill the bitch!" Shane says, spitting at Raven's feet.

Snorting at his words, Raven speaks up, "It'll take a hell of a lot more than you to kill me, Walsh!"

Turning to Raven, Rick speaks. "Due to the pain and suffering, Raven Reyes, You may give the first shock."

Smirking once more, Raven raises the prod "With pleasure." She says before placing the Cattle prod at the juncture between Shane's legs, turn on the device, Raven sends massive jolts of electricity to Shane's scrotum. Hearing the blood curdling scream coming from this piece of shit, Raven drops the prod and turns to Daryl "Please, take me to my quarters." She whispers. With a nod to Rick, Daryl picks up Raven and leaves.

After Raven is out of site, Rick, Bellamy, and Roan start strapping bands with electrodes coming from them onto Shane. Making sure the man was strapped in tightly and gagging him. They signal to Kane, who is waiting by the Tech tent. He sees them signal and turns on the machine. Giving a small nod, Kane turns and flips the switch on sending electricity through the monster until Shane is nothing but a fried mess. Once done, Kane turns it off and Bellamy helps Rick remove the krispy Shane from the cross. They throw him on a stretcher and take him off base to be burned with the trash.

Rick returned to his quarters. He remembered the man he once called a friend, his brother. That one time they beat up a bully who was picking on underclassmen, or the time that Shane stole the principal's car and hid it in a chicken coop a mile from school. Their first day on the job, man they were green back then. He remembered his and Lori's wedding, Shane was his best man. The day Carl was born he told Shane before he told anyone else, not even the grandparents knew before him. He is even Carl's godfather. How could the man that was all these things to him turn into the monster he just saw burn? He would not mourn the man that was executed, but he did mourn for his lost friend.
