(I'm slowly going to edit this whole thing, which began in like 2012 and officially completed 2015)

The first fanfic I wrote:

It's a Percy Jackson fanfic—sorta. I'm doing a version for a character I made up, and she comes to Camp Half-blood right before the ship sails to New Rome. Obviously I don't own any of the books or content of the Heroes of Olympus (and Percy Jackson and the Olympians) but I will use the characters and Rick Riordan's series' plot to help shape mine.

Enjoy:)

Introduction

Have you ever wondered about other demigods? You know, not the ones that everyone adores because they saved the world and yada, yada. Well I'm not exactly buddy-buddy with them, so, um, yeah. Anyways I'm Mia Baine, here is my story:

It begins with 15 year old me and my mother. She had light red hair, pale skin with freckles dotting her nose. She's was very pretty and she grew up on a vineyard, where I also grew up. It was pretty nice, but not exciting--the exciting stuff happens later. Anyway, my mom had me young, around 19. My father, well, was never around and didn't stick around to even see me be birthed. Apparently he's some type of important 'advisor' for these kids in New York far from my home in Western Pennsylvania, such an important job that he had to leave my mom alone to deal with me. I guess he was not too far away, but no visits, no cards—nothing. I chose to stick to myself and didn't enjoy the company of people other than my mom and family. Would it have been nice to have friends? Yes, but I was too weird for that (it'll make sense in a bit). I was home schooled and my closest "friend" was my cousin, Avery, and his parents helped run the vineyard. We were born the same year two weeks apart. I was the oldest. It was fun to rub it in his face. We always picked the grapes; mine were the ripest and fullest. When we'd race he would usually win. My life was fun and happy, content, until I turned 13.

Avery and I were enjoying my chocolate strawberry cake outside on the porch overlooking the vineyard. We were having a blast until he pointed out something strange with my eyes.

"Hey! Stop throwing cake at me!" I shouted, not please to be dodging bits of chocolate and strawberry.

"Ha ha! It's fun! Why should I stop?" Avery asked with a devilish grin. I glared at him and I felt my face get hot on my forehead. "Ummm... what's with your eyes Mia?"

"What are you talking about?" I questioned, touching my eyes to feel for anything odd--felt normal, didn't feel normal.

"There are waves of blue moving in and out of your eyes." Avery said staring in my eyes. "It's pretty cool to watch the blue move in the violet of your eyes."

"Why is that happening?"

"I don't know. Maybe it's a special thing that happens when you turn 13."

"Yeah! I guess we'll find out in two weeks." I said, jabbing a finger at him. Yeah, cause that happens to every kid turning thirteen.

"Ow!"

"That didn't hurt!" I shouted. Avery grinned and grabbed my cake and ran off. "Hey!" I got up and ran after him.

But Avery didn't get to see his thirteenth birthday. Long story short, he basically went insane the day after my birthday and died right before his. If you are curious, he got incredibly paranoid and he couldn't handle it--that is all I will say about that. After Avery passed, my life as I knew it began to crumble and get really confusing.

I stopped talking to Avery's parents, my Aunt Jane and Uncle Mark. My mom noticed this change and she tried to help by getting me a dog. He died before we could name him. He ran straight into the fire in the fireplace, like he went insane too. I guess I was angry at myself still. Things like this with animals happened when I got upset or angry, especially when I struggled with school work because of my dyslexia. Last it happened was one week before I got to camp. It was January, and my mom was attempting to review math with me, my least favorite subject.
