My fingers drummer against the steering wheel as I drive over to Stefan and Caroline's, but it was also my home.

I parked my car on the street and looked over at the house. I could see Caroline and Stefan through the grand window in front of the house. I was terrified. I wanted to put this car in drive and never come back to this place.

But I opened the car door and stepped out, taking a deep breath. I just had to remember I was doing this for my son. I locked my car and started walking towards the front door.

I stopped in front of the door, I wanted to run, I needed to, but I found myself knocking on the front door anyways. I waited a few moments before the door was swung open.

There he was, standing there in his button up shirt, it looked like the exact one i've kept for five years.

There was so much tension and awkwardness between us, you could cut it with a knife.

"Elena." He said almost as a whisper. My name still rolled off of his perfectly, like it always had.

"Damon." I said, my fingernails digging into my palm. I wanted to slap him, but also hug him. I watched as he stepped to the side.

I stepped inside and looked around, only to be engulfed into a hug by Caroline. "Elena! I missed you!"

I smiled and wrapped my arms around her. "I missed you too." She pulled away and smiled at me, "I'll give you two some space, try not to rip out each other's throats."

"Care!" I hit her arm and she walked away. I could feel Damon's presence behind me, it gave my body the chills, but it also felt like it was on fire.

I turned around, biting on my bottom lip. I looked into his blue eyes, they never failed to make me melt.
"I'm glad you decided to talk."

"I needed to do what was best for Braxton. This isn't for me, it's for him, he is all that matters right now."

"I completely agree." He says with a sigh, "Would you like to sit down?" He suggests, gesturing to the couches.

I only give him a simple nod the plop down on the couch. My nerves were starting to consume me as he sat down on the other side of the couch. "Let's talk then." He slings his right arm on top of the couch.

"You know about Braxton. And i'm assuming you want to meet him."

"I have a right Elena, I helped make that child, and I had know idea about him. Why didn't you tell me? I had the right."

"I-I tried." I stammered, tears forming in my eyes. "I tried the day you left me. But then you left and I called you everyday for a year, if you would've picked up your damn phone you would've known Damon."

A confused look spread across Damon's face as he looked at me. "So you have no right to say I didn't tell you. I fucking tried!" I felt a tear drop to my cheek.

"This was a mistake." I wipe the tear off my cheek and stand from the couch as I start to make my way to the front door.

"Elena wait!" I hear his footsteps following me as my hand grips the door knob. "Elena please." I felt him standing behind me. "I had no idea you were trying to call me okay? Please just let me explain."

"Damon you hurt me. You left me crying on your bedroom floor, you didn't even care, how do I know you care about my son? How do I know you won't leave him too?"

"I know I hurt you, I've regret everyday. I fucked up okay? I made a mistake. I tried to come back. I just need you to listen to me."

"I cant Damon. I should've listened to Stefan five years ago when he told me all you cared about was yourself." I finally opened the front door and ran outside.
