5 YEARS LATER
It's Braxton's fifth birthday today, he's gotten so big, and he looks so much like Damon. I look into Braxton's piercing blue eyes everyday, it only reminds me on Damon's.

As I stand in my backyard, i'm happy how far i've come these past few years. I'm currently a resident becoming a doctor and living my dreams. After I had Braxton, I stayed with my aunt and uncle as I went through college. But once college was over, Caroline and Stefan asked me to move in with them.

They also get married in a few months, Caroline's been on a frenzy trying to get everything prepared for their wedding.

Stefan and Care are also a big help with Braxton. We've become a small little family, me, my son, and my best friends.

"Mommy!" Braxton runs over to me, his arms wide open. I bend down and scoop him up into my arms. "Hey little buddy. Are you having fun?"

"Yes!" He says with a giggle. I ruffle his jet black hair. "I love you Brax, always."

"I love you mommy!" He kisses my cheek, "Can I go play again? The bouncy house is so much fun!"

I laugh and nod my head before putting him back onto the ground, "Go have fun!" He runs back
over to his friends.

"Elena!" I turn around to see Care walking out of our house. "Sorry i'm late! I had more wedding things to attend to!" She engulfs me in a hug, wrapping her arms around my waist.

"It's okay! I'm just happy hour here."

"Well duh! I'm only the best aunt ever! I can't miss out on his birthday!"

I smile, "I really am thankful for you and Stefan. You guys never had to invite me to live with y'all but you did. I'll never be able to thank you enough."

"Oh Lena. We wouldn't have it any other way. We wanted to give you a chance to become a doctor. We knew that would be hard with just Braxton and you."

I smile and hug her again. I look over at Braxton whose running around and playing with of children. "Is it bad I still wish Damon was here? I know he's never coming back. I just wish Braxton had a father."

"There's nothing wrong with that. Your a mom, your always going to want a father for him. But you did it Elena, you did all by yourself. I think when Braxton gets older he will love you even more for that."

"I did have some help, and I still do, I can't take all the credit."

"Why don't we do cake?" She suggest.

I nod and she disappears into the house. "Kids! Who wants cake?"

We sing happy birthday and eat cake.

As all the kids head home me and Care start to clean up. As Stefan get home he takes Braxton inside. Something was off about Stefan, but Care told me he was just stressed from work, but I could tell that wasn't it. He barely looked at me since he's been home.

Me and Care finish up cleaning and head inside. Stefan and Brax are sitting on the floor playing and opening his new toys. I help finish up the dishes before me and Caroline collapse on the couch.

"Today was exhausting" I breathe out as Braxton climbs onto the couch and lays his head on my legs. "Mommy I had so much fun today."

I smile and run my hands through his black hair. "I'm glad you had fun baby. Should we go take a bath?" He sits up and nods his head quickly, "Well let's go!"

Braxton jumps off the couch and darts up the stairs. "Thank you to the both of you. I don't know where I would be without you too."

I walk up the stairs and walk into Braxton's room as he's picking out his pjs. "Which ones tonight buddy?"

"Race cars!" He says ripping them from the drawer. "Okay!" He races to the bathroom, me following behind him.

I run the bath water, testing out the temperature as Braxton gets undressed. "All set buddy." I lift him off the floor and set him in the tub. I grabbed a few of his toys and placed them in the tub.

"Mommy, can I ask you a question?"

"Of course you can Brax."

"Do I have a dad?" I swear I stopped breathing in that moment.

"O-Of course you do."

"Where is he? All the kids at schools have dads and they tell so many cool stories!"

"Last I knew was New York. But I have no idea now."

"When can I meet him?"

"I-I dont know buddy. I don't know. One day you will buddy okay? I don't think bows the time okay?"

"Okay Mommy." He picks up his race car and drives it alongside the tub.

"I love you Brax. Don't ever forget that okay?"

"I won't mommy!" He smiles widely at me before splashing me with water.

"Hey now!" I say laughing. "That's not very nice!" He laughs at me as I wipe my shirt with a towel. "Let's get you washed up and to bed."

I wash him up then taking him out of the bath, wrapping him in the towel. I ruffle his hair with the towel before drying him off and putting on his pjs. Braxton brushes his teeth before we go into his room.

"Mommy? Can I sleep with you tonight?"

I smile and nod. "Of course." I grabs his hand and walk with him to my bedroom. I lift him onto my bed and he crawls under the covers. "I'll be up here soon okay?"

"Okay mommy." I kiss his forehead, "I love you Brax"

"I love you mommy." He closes his eyes and turns the other way. I walk out the the hallway closing the door halfway as I walk out.

I walk downstairs and make my way to the kitchen. I instantly felt the need to faint. Care and Stefan stood there with worried looks on their faces. And there he was, I knew it was him.

Damon stood from the stool and turned to look at me. He hadn't changed as I stared  at the guy who looked exactly like my son.

I couldn't breathe. He was here and standing in front of me. This can't be real. I walked closer to him, raised my hand, and slapped him across the face before bolting up the stairs and into the bathroom.

I looked at myself in the mirror as tears ran down my cheeks.

My wish came true. And now I was wishing it hadn't .
