Caroline has been calling me nonstop for the past couple days, Damon must have told her about our little encounter at the house.
My mind has been playing so many different scenarios. I've wanted Braxton to have Damon in his life since he was born, but now that he's actually here, I didn't want them to meet.
All these thoughts were in my head as my aunt sat me down at the dining room table.
"You should talk about it Elena, get it out of your mind."
"I just can't stop thinking about Braxton. I've wanted him to have his father for so long, and now I don't want them anywhere near each other."
"You have to think about what's best for Braxton, your letting your own feelings get in the way."
I sigh and put my head in my hands. "I know, I know. But I don't know what to do about it."
"You need to figure that out." I sigh again and nod at my aunt. "I just need some time."
She walks around the table, kissing the side of my head. I push myself up out of the chair and head upstairs to check on Braxton who was taking a nap.
I peeled inside my bedroom, Braxton wrapped up in my covers.
I can't help but think about how much he's asked about why he doesn't have a dad, or where his father is. Did I really want to stop him from having the chance of having a father?
I closed the door and sunk onto the floor, putting my head in my hands. I could feel my phone buzzing from my back pocket. I took it out and seen Caroline's name on the screen, I couldn't keep ignoring her.
"Hi." I whispered, trying to be quiet.
"Oh thank god you finally picked up! Elena!"
"Hey Care."
"Lena I miss you. Damon told me about what happened the other day. I'm so sorry, I had no idea he was coming home if I knew he was I wouldn't never-"
"Caroline! Slow down it's okay. It's not your fault."
"I'm still sorry."
"It's okay. You don't need to be sorry. It happened, nothing you could've done to stop it."
"So what's going on with you? And Braxton? I miss that little guy."
"He misses you too. And i've just been thinking a lot. I just needed a break from everything, so i'm sorry for ignoring you."
"It's okay, don't apologize about it."
"Can I ask you a serious question?"
"Of course you can."
"Should Damon and Braxton meet?"
"I can't answer that question for you. You have to make that decision yourself. You should talk to Damon."
"I'm not gonna do that okay? He's not the same person I was in love with."
"It's been five years! Elena he's been through something! Something no one should ever go through!"
"What are you talking about? Caroline what happened?"
"I can't tell you that. But you should talk to him, that's all I can say. I have to go, I love you."
"Love you too."
After that phone call, it made me think about even more things. What was Caroline talking about? What happened?
Did I really want Braxton to get to know Damon? That was the ultimate question. Personally, I didn't want him to. Having Damon in my life again scared the hell out of me.
But I was letting my own feeling get in the way. What did Braxton want? Did he want a father?
As I sat leaned against my bedroom door, I heard small footsteps approach the door from inside, the door open from behind me.
"Mommy?"
"Hey baby." I smile at Braxton, wiping the tears from under my eyes as I turn around to look at him.
"Mommy are you crying?"
"No,no i'm okay. Do you want to eat lunch?"
"Yes!" I get up from the floor and scoop Braxton into my arms. "What would you like?"
"Mac and Cheese?"
I press a kiss to his cheek. "Of course."
I put him down in the living room before going to the kitchen to make him lunch.
My mind was so focused on what Caroline said earlier, I didn't even realize the water in front of me boiling over and going all over the stove.
"Elena!" My aunt runs i'm removing the pot from the stove. "What are you doing?"
"I-I'm sorry my minds just everywhere, I wasn't paying attention."
"I'll finish this." She takes my place by the stove.
"I can't get out of my mind what Caroline said to me earlier Jenna, I don't know what to do."
"Well what did she say? Maybe I can help."
"She said something happened to Damon while he was in New York."
"Well what was it? What happened to him?"
"I have no idea. She told me to talk to him, but I don't know if I can handle that. But will talking to him give me the clarity about him and Braxton."
"You need to do what's best for you and Braxton. You know Braxton has been asking about his father for forever."
"I know." I say with a sigh. "That's why I feel like I should speak to him, but can I handle that?"
"You might have to, for the sake of your son, and you. You know if you don't speak to him now you'll regret it later."
"Yeah your right."
That night I sat at the edge of the bed staring at my phone. I wanted to talk to Damon, but I was scared. I still loved him, I knew I always would.
I had his number from Caroline all I had to do was text him. But I couldn't get my fingers to move, I was frozen.
I typed in his number then slowly started to type a message to him.
ELENA:
Hey, it's Elena. I think we should talk.I hit send and took in a deep breath as a tear fell down my cheek. But there they were, the three little dots.
DAMON:
Yeah your right, how about tonight?Well there was no backing out now.
