"People fear death even more than pain. It’s strange that they fear death. Life hurts a lot more than death. At the point of death, the pain is over. Yeah, I guess it’s a friend” – Jim Morrison

When we finished, the rain did too. We set out straight away. Owen and Luisa hadn’t said much and I wondered if something had happened or if they were just being quiet. It wasn’t like them at all. I stepped over a fallen tree and then sat on it, waiting for them to catch up. When they finally stepped over the trunk too, Owen spoke.

“What? Come on lets go. What are you waiting for?”

“You to say something.” I replied. “Now you have. I was worried. You usually aren’t that quiet. Are you alright?” I asked, suddenly worried he had caught a cold or something. Owen shrugged.  I thought nothing of it after that.

We carried on walking until we came across a line of buildings which looked somewhat familiar. Although bodies were littered everywhere, I still recognized it. It was the care home. Luisa had the same look in her eyes as I did. We both knew full well that our belongings were probably still in there, along with a whole load of medicine. Unless somebody had gotten there before us, it would all still be there. Owen soon realized what Luisa and I had and suddenly appeared excited. “Do you think it’s safe to go in there?” I questioned. Both Owen and Luisa shrugged which was in no way helpful to me.

“Should be, shouldn’t it?” Luisa said, starting to walk towards the building which we once called home. Was she trying to prove herself? No, she wasn't. She hesitated and waited for Owen and I to catch up. When we reached the door, Luisa pulled the handle down and shoved the door open. She looked pleased with herself as she stepped inside and ran up the stairs. Yes, she was definatly proving herself. I didn't know to be honest. Luisa was a odd speciman.

“Wait up!” I called after her, sprinting up the stairs. I heard Owen plod up the stairs behind me. Luisa looked as if she wanted to kick down the door. I nodded for her to try. It was about time she grew a pair. Luisa shook her head. I sighed and did it for her. Not proving herself then? I was instantly attacked by a tall, boney zombie. I shoved it out the way, it hit Luisa and pulled her to the floor. I was pretty certain it bit her. But not that certain.

I immediately reached for my gun and shot it repeatedly in the head. It collapsed to the floor, but scraped at the wooden boards and continued to snarl and hiss at us. Luisa backed away from it and leaned against the wall. The sound of the gun echoed all around and we were all suddenly worried that the sound would indicate to others that we were here.

“Luisa. We have to get out of here. NOW!” I yelled, forgetting to be quiet. Luisa nodded quickly, then followed Owen and I down the stairs. I could still hear the zombie groaning from upstairs. All of us ran as fast as we could out of the building and straight into the woods nearby. “We need to get far, far away from here.” I said, breathless.

“I know.” Owen answered. “But none of us know which way we should go! My opinion, if you want it, is that we head up. Find a high place and make sure we are safe.  After all, before a clan of zombies climbed a hill, we would be gone!” He was right. The higher the better. In our wake, we left a trail of brain dead monsters.

The gunshot had alerted a nearby clan of zombies that we were here. We were all in a state of panic as they were little than ten meters away from us. Luisa turned to me and I spoke up. “There’s too many of them. We’re going to have to get rid of them!” I knew that was easier said than done, but I was determined to keep all of us safe and get us to safety. “I can’t shoot them. I don’t have enough bullets to take them all down…” Owens eyes whipped from me to the zombies.
