“Half-brother actually.”

“How long have you known?”

“How long have you known?” He shot back

“Not long. Now answer my question.” I obstinately commanded.

“I have known ever since I was ten that I had a sister. I just didn’t know it was you until Kyle told me your name. I wondered why it was that was looked so similar. When I got my answer, I was surprised, of course. I also felt a little weird, because I found you attractive.”  He paused.

His words caused the sickliest feeling in the back of my throat I have ever felt. I scrunched up my nose and remained next to Ash. Ash didn’t know what was going on, so he tried to calm the situation. Bless him, I could tell that he was terrified. This man, my brother, had killed his entire group – including his best friend. Ash was bound to be next on the list.

Connor began to speak again. “I genuinely wanted you to help us go out and hunt. Nonetheless, I lied to you. I didn’t want to hunt just zombies. I wanted to hunt humans too. You have to find some way to eat, don’t you?” I didn’t answer his vile question.

“I am starving and –“ He cut me off before I could finish.

“I am willing to give you one last chance, Kate. Come with us and you won’t go hungry. You don’t want to end up dead do you.” He wasn’t begging or asking, but he wasn’t telling me to either. I knew I wouldn’t go with him, what he was doing was horrid. Brother or not, nothing could cover up the fact that he killed Luisa.

“Sorry about your friend, Kate.” I heard Kyle say, almost inaudibly. My blood boiled in my veins. Now was my chance, maybe my only chance, to kill them. There was one problem: I had no bullets in my gun. I wanted to get revenge for them shooting her by shooting them.

“Why do you care?” I said through gritted teeth.

“He doesn’t.  He just knows that if you’re like us, which you clearly are, you will want revenge and you can get it. I’m not sorry about her. She was slowing you down. You know that, don’t you?” He sneered.

“Kate. What’s going on? I don’t understand.” I didn’t want him to understand, but he was part of my group now. The smirking bastard told Ash before I could.

“Kate is mine and Kyle’s sister. She is my half-sister, but she is Kyles non- identical twin. My father got rid of her when her mum died in a ‘tragic’ accident. I don’t think it is so tragic to be honest. Without it happening, we wouldn’t be where we are now. I like where we are now. Don’t you, Kate?”  I shrugged and bit back a scream.

“Step away, dude.” Ash warned Connor. I turned to see that he had revenge etched all over his face. I didn’t blame him. I knew Ash would shoot Connor if he got the chance to. But, while Connor had back up, we wouldn’t be able to even pinch him.

“This isn’t some high school fight.” Connor stated. “I want my sister back with me and my brother. I also want something to eat tonight. Where is that girl I left behind? Hiding in there is she?” Connor gestured to the hut.

“Stay the fuck away.” Ash spat out. I didn’t blame him for wanting to protect Katherine; she was his girlfriend after all. “You took away my old group, but I am going to try harder to protect this one. This one is stronger.” I smirked, yeah he was complimenting me. It was great to be complimented once in a while. Even if it was by somebody I hardly knew. Come to think of it, I was always complimented by somebody I barely knew. Life is so cruel.

“Indeed it is. It’s because my sister is in it, you idiot. If anyone can, and could’ve, protected anyone it is her. Her friend was just a little slip up.” He said, as if he were pitying me. My fists clenched tightly. If I could strangle him right now, I would!
