Prometheus was the son of the Titan Lapetus and brother of Atlas. Even though he was the son of a titan, he still helped Zeus overthrow them.
The gods wanted mortal beings to rule over so with the help of Prometheus and Athena, they were able to create the first humans. Prometheus sculpted them from clay and Athena gave them soul.
The god Moros would bring the humans death and the winged Thanatos then had to collect all their souls and bring them to the underworld. Hades would watch over them until they are judged to go to heaven or to stay in the underworld. The three headed giant dog Cerberus(Child of Typhon and Echidna) was the pet of Hades who was also guarding the underworld.
The mortals suffered on Earth due to cold and raw food. Prometheus stole fire from Hephaestus' work shop and gave it to the humans.
This angered Zeus and he gave him a severe punishment. He was chained to a rock and an eagle was placed there to eat his liver. Every day the liver re-grew and the torture continued.
