Aphrodite had been married to Hephaestus but she still used to have affairs with many other gods especially Ares. They used to secretly meet each other everyday. They even had a son together, Eros(God of Lust).

One day the Sun-God Apollo saw them enjoying each other in the hall of Hephaestus and told Hephaestus about them.

Hephaestus made a strong invisible net and went to his hall. At the appropriate time, this net was sprung, and trapped Ares and Aphrodite together.

But Hephaestus was not satisfied with his revenge, so he invited the Olympian gods and goddesses to view the unfortunate pair. The gods went to witness the sight. Some commented on the beauty of Aphrodite, others remarked that they would eagerly trade places with Ares, but all who were present mocked the two.

Later, Ares put a young soldier by his door to warn them of Apollo's arrival, but one day the soldier fell asleep on guard duty. Apollo discovered the two and alerted Hephaestus again. The furious Ares turned the sleepy soldier into a rooster which now always announces the arrival of the sun in the morning.
