Chapter 28

*****Lauren's POV*****

I opened the door and saw Arin standing there, his eyes looking full of fear. "Follow me" I said simply as I walked into the kitchen. I sat in a chair and he sat in one across from me, twiddling with his thumbs. "Arin" I growled out, making him jump up a little. "Yeah?" "You got five minutes to tell me what happened between you and Normani. Starting now".

"Mani and I were in bed, and then I said some things about Dinah that made her upset. I blamed Dinah for us never having time for each other, and then I said Mani loved Dinah more than me. And then I told her we needed to take a break and that she had to leave the apartment". I was trying to process what he said, but I was having trouble.

"Why would you even say some of those things? You know Normani loves you, but you were just insecure and immature. And you sent your fiancé out on the streets. You should be ashamed of yourself. Mani is somewhere out there sad and alone, and she needs you Arin". He looked down at his hands and started to sniffle a little, and then the tears started to fall slowly. One at a time. I was utterly shocked...I've never seen Arin cry before.

"I messed up Lauren. You gotta help me find her. She is the love of my life, but she doesn't want to be anywhere near me. She won't answer her phone or anything. What am I gonna do?" I reached across the table and grabbed his hand, "You're gonna tell me where I can find her. I need you to think of where she could possibly be". "She's not here, and all her friends and family are in Houston". "Then that's where I'm gonna look first" I said. He looked at me confused, "What?" "I'm going to Houston" I stated plainly.

"I'm coming with you" he said, but I had other plans. "Arin, I need you to stay here and look after Dinah. Normani obviously doesn't want to see either of you right now, so I'm gonna try to talk to her" I explained. He nodded, "Is there any way I can help?" "I could use her parents' address and phone number. And promise me that you will take care of Dinah while I'm gone. I'm gonna book the next flight to Houston, and I'll bring her home". He just nodded, "I'm gonna go home and see if she came home, and try to call again. I'll be back in the morning to discuss the flight and stuff". "Alright" I started, "Now go home and get some rest".And just like that, he was out of the house.

I went back into the living room where Dinah was, kneeling in front of her on the floor. "I'm gonna find her Dinah, but I'm gonna need you to stay here when I go. I gotta have you hold down the fort baby. Just in case she comes back" I said. Everything was so much easier to explain while she was asleep, but I knew I would have to tell her when she opened her eyes. And I don't know how she's gonna take the news. Only time will tell.

*****Normani's POV*****

I was getting my bags and going through security in the airport now, just going through the motions. When I got through bagging, I just sat inside scrolling through my contacts, trying to find someone to call. I hovered my finger over Arin's contact, "Boo-thang". I felt a lone tear slide down my face, and I couldn't help but think that this was my fault.What could I have done to fix this? I'm about three hours and 1,000 miles too late right now.

I scrolled to the m's in my contact, and then clicked one. "Hello? Normani? Is that you?" I heard the voice say. I chuckled a little, "Well, it's not some serial killer that took my phone. "Very funny young lady, where are you? Arin and Dinah have been calling here all day". "I'm at the airport mom, in Houston. Can you come get me?" I asked. "I'll be there soon, and I just need you to let them know that you are safe". I sighed, "I'm not speaking to them right now. I'll explain everything when you get here".

I sat around and waited for my mom, trying to figure out what I was gonna tell her. "He dumped me and kicked me out?" "I pretty much told my best friend to go fuck herself?" Yep, this was going to be a very long evening. I felt my phone vibrate, and I looked to see a text from my mom. "I'm here, get your ass outside now". I felt a beed of sweat move down my forehead out of nervousness, she never curses.

I put my backpack on my shoulders and started rolling out my two suitcases outside. When I got outside, I was immediately pulled into a hug by my mom. "Hey mom" I said, holding her to me. I was trying to remember the last time I saw her, but it's been too long. "You've got a lot of explaining to do sweetheart. But for now, let's just go home". I just listened to my mother, and now we were driving home.

"How have you been sweetie" she asked. "I've been better" I stated simply. "And how's Dinah and Arin doing?" she continued. I felt a tear slide down my face, which I quickly wiped away. I can't sit around crying over them. Neither of them cared about me. "What happened between you three?" I just sighed, "That's the past now, mom. They're both dead to me. I've sacrificed too much for both of the, and I lost myself. It's time to for me to Enjoy my life. And re-invent myself. I'm moving on".

It's time for me to have a good time.....starting tonight. The new Normani doesn't worry about rules and curfews. This girl wants to party and drink. And hell, I'll sleep with who I want. The good girl that I used to be has shriveled up and died. I'm the new, fun, and confident Normani.

And i plan to prove that tonight.
