Kitana's P.O.V.
I woke up to the feel of something cool on my forehead, and gently let my fingers reached to touch it and shivered, then trace the material. A wet cloth but damp, so I wouldn't wake up in my mermaid form. I didn't want to open my eyes, because I didn't know whose face to see. Marshall's, Skarlet's, Lacey's, Carly's, anyone. But Daegon's face. I struggled to remember why I was in here, but I heard a kid yelling about his arm bleeding and thought: Yep. I'm in the infirmary office. But still. Why. All I remembered was that before I was completely under the spell of sleep, I heard Frost say I was burning up. Which is weird, because my body temperature is 100.4. Maybe I overheated. I touched my cheeks. They must've looked bright red and felt warm. My head throbbed, but then I heard a southern twang voice, one from New Orleans, call my name.
"Sweet Marmalade, Kitana, you're okay!"
I opened my eyes, my eyelids fluttering open, and I hissed like a cat when the fluorescent lighting hit my sight. I know I still have my contacts on, but it hurts. "Hey." I said, smiling.
"Tell me. What happened?" She asked me, hazel eyes widened.
It all came back to me in a flash. "Fell asleep in History class, got a fever. Think Frost took me in." I yawned, and stretched. The pain in my arms were ebbing away, and touched my cheeks again. My cuts would be almost-invisible. I looked back and forth, and squinted to see the time. "How long was I out?"
"About an hour and a half. You missed Study Hall, and now it's lunch." She said, and I could smell what was right beside that was lunch. A baked potato, green beans, and some meat. Probably corned beef. "Here, figured you'd be hungry." I felt my stomach growl, and sat up, then ate the potato. The salty, buttery taste getting on my tongue. Then I got some corned beef. Wait. An hour and a half?! Oh, crap. I missed Daegon for our time of making out and stuff. Oh, dang it! Why did I have to get a fever! Ugh! I sometimes get fevers during fall and winter, which gets me out of my rough nights. "Where's Daegon?!" I shouted, realizing I may get a tombstone early.
"Don't get your panties in a bunch," she said, which was ironic, because they did felt like they were in a bunch. "I told him what happened. He says he'll come around lunch to check on ya, but didn't change that flat expression of his." She said, that southern style of speech being my background noise as I ate my lunch and put it in the trash.
Carly twirled a strand of wavy brown hair. "Marshall was worried, and looking for you."
I choked on the bits of green beans, and Carly patted my back, helping me breathe. I chugged down a glass of water, allowing myself to breathe. "He was?" I managed to speak.
"Yeah, but Lacey and Skarlet handled him. He's fine. Plus, Skarlet and Lacey said something about a talent show they're hooking up next Friday. You can sing your pretty voice!"
I turned more red than I looked. A talent show. Haven't had one of those in a while. Neither did you feel love from Daegon.. The thought sneakily crept through my head. "Fine. I'll do it. But one song."
