The bell rings above the door, as I enter into the small bakery. Plain simple white walls, a decently sized table off to the side, giving a way for foot traffic. Not very big by any means , but with the benches that line the front window, there's antiquip seating.
I walk along the soft brown wooden floor to the register. Ringing the bell to signify I am waiting. "Mrs.Rockwell, I'm here to help deliver." Calling quietly, as I look around.
"Coming, Kelsey!" An older women response back to me. White curly hair pokes out from the small window in the kitchen. In a moment her whole face reveals itself, her pale wrinkly skin holds up her round glasses, framing her blue eyes.
The lady comes around the kitchen and to me, holding three boxes of different baked goods. "Oh, Kelsey where's your brother today?" Her soft voice rings, looking around not spotting the blonde.
"Oh, he's outside coloring, he didn't want to come in. Then he'd want to buy something, and we don't have the money for that." Ending with a giggle as I look to her.
"Oh no worries about money, here you and him can have a muffin. Seeing as it's so early in the morning, you all probably didn't get to eat breakfast." She says sweetly getting out a blueberry and chocolate muffin.
Smiling I take the bakegoods into my hand, "Oh thank you Mrs.Rockwell, you really dont have too." The lady shakes her head signifying it's no worries, then hands me the things I am too deliver, her having put them into a large basket for me to carry.
"They each have who they go too, on the package, and a list of Derry residents is in there as well. Don't worry about coming back afterwards, as long as you bring the basket back every morning, we'll be just fine." She smiles, handing me a fifty dollar bill.
"Thank you, Mrs.Rockwell, we should be going, don't want to look like a bad emplyee on my first day." Giggling as I take the mony, stuffing it into the pocket of black midthigh shorts.
The door opens from James, his eyes in suprise, and frighten. I immediately run to him, holding everything in my hands. Once outside the young boy clings to me. "Hey boyo whats up..?" I ask setting the basket down, the muffins ontop of the basket.
"Th-th-there c-c-clown.. h-h-he said h-h-he found Ge-Georgie." His voice breaks, talking about his old friend. I look around getting the chills from just hearing the blue eyed boy speak.
Looking around my eyes see nothing, but an empty street. Holding him close as I pet his back, trying to calm him down. Scanning the streets, my eyes gazing upon nothing, but I know he saw something based on his actions.
The boy never acts this way with imaginary friends, or nightmares. Sure he cries some times, but the boy I hold in my arms is shaking, telling me it was real. "Don't worry, I'm here now it's not gonna get you. Im gonna beat any sorry clown's ass who messes with you." Holding his cheeks, as I wipe away his tears, James sniffles and nods, before going back and hugging me.
It takes a few minutes for hin to calm down, and return to normal. We take the time sitting on the concrete, beside the store. The morning air starting to get warmer, from the sun buring harder onto us. James onlu eats one of the muffins, me not wanting the other one to go to waste. I put the leftovers in the basket of the bike. After he finishes I help him into the bike, as he starts peddling I walk beside him, leading him to the first destination.
"Okay, first it's Wentworth and Maggie Tozier." Looking at the list, pointing ti the street, where the couple lives.
"How long is this gonna take!" The brown eyed boy groans, to me.
Giggling I say, "We only have three deliveries, so depending on where everyone lives, it should only take the shorter part of an hour." Smiling to the boy, he whines but nods.
"Fineeeeee!" Ending with a humph, he continues to bike along with me.
Coming upon Palmar Lane, I inspect all the different house numbers, seeking for one in perticular. Going back and forth between the paper and the houses. Not understanding why the last name Tozier seems so fimiliar, but it eats away at the back of my brain.
Finally finding the white house, the name Tozier written on the mailbox. A nice stone path, leading straight to the light wood porch. James leans his bike against the mailpost, before grabbing my hand. I assume he's still shaken up, by the encounter earlier.
"Ready, boyo?" My voice calm, as I gaze down to him, he nods as answer, and we walk to the white door.
Knocking the door, a boy who looks fairly fimiliar opens the door. His large glasses makes the boy's brown eyes seem as though it's larger than usual. The boy looks to me shocked for a moment, adjusts his glasses, and shakes off his surprise exterior.
"Damn, I've always had sexy chicks knocking down my door, but never with their little brother." The weird boy states looking down to me, him being about a head taller.
"Someone has a kink?" The boy winks to me, causing me to look at him confusion, and disgust.
"Okay.. weird child..-" I sigh as grabbing the box of bake goods from the basic. "I'm here to deliver your order from Grandma Grace's." Speaking, handing the nicely white box to the boy.
"Did you call me a child??" He asks taking the box into his hands, fake hurt in his voice. "I'm only a year younger than you, hotstuff." The brown eyed boy protests.
An involuntary laugh escapes my lip, before quickly covering my mouth with my hands. "Seriously..?? You're the same age as Stanley? With the way you drop profanities I would've thought you were ten." Laughing, I hold James's hand, James I can tell feel awkward but doesn't say anything, not wanting to be rude.
"Ten?! I'll have you know sweet cheeks, I'm thirteen, turning fourteen before the next year!" The boy protests again, starting to get a little angry.
"Well that's cool, you'll be freshmeat," Winking to the boy as I start to walk off, James following suit.
"Wait you know Stanley, Stanley Uris?!" The kid calls after me.
"Yup, have forever basically!" I call back loud enough to make the distance, but not loud enough to disturb anyone.
"That Jewy bitch!" The boy curses, not loud enough for it to hit my ears.
"See ya' later freshy!" I call to the boy, after James gets on his bike, and we continue to our next stop. Before I hear his reply, we are both too far away.
