"Majesty?"
Blinking to clear the sleep from my eyes, I sit up. Finally focusing on the owner of the voice, I go still when I see Marko in front of me. The youngest vampire is fidgety, a drastic change from his normal demeanor.
"I thought-" He swallows. "We all thought that you weren't coming back."
I frown, not liking that I had given them all that impression. "I may not be the happiest with you guys right now, but I wouldn't just leave."
Nodding, he calms significantly and sits beside me. We're soon joined by the other three who have similar expressions of shock that change to joyful and even excited ones, all except for David. David looks thoughtful as he stares at me.
"Help us," he says, shocking both me and the other boys if their faces are anything to go by. "I want you to feel comfortable here. So help us not be killers."
I shake my head. "You don't have to change. I don't agree with killing people, but the people you kill are... unsavory so I will accept it." Standing, I walk over, cupping his face with my hands. "I appreciate you all being willing to change, but it was never my goal to change you. Your lifestyle is your own and I can learn to love it."
"You don't have to kill anyone," Dwayne states suddenly. "We can kill them and bring you blood."
Turning, I sit on David's lap as I respond, "I have to kill at least one person to transition fully."
"Only once and then never again," David insists.
"I can agree with that."
"Yes!" Paul cheers.
Dwayne is the first to note the two half-vampire residents' absence. "What about Laddie and Star?"
David sighs. "Star insists on leaving this life far behind."
"But Laddie likes it with us," Paul says, frowning. "Why does she get to choose for the little guy?"
"She doesn't," I state. "Tonight, we'll go and ask him what he wants."
"Tonight is an important night," David says, "Max plans to tell your mother the truth about himself and us. He wants her and your youngest brother to join us."
I blink. "Oh. Wow." Shaking my head, I comment, "Mike is never going to agree. He and Star want nothing to do with us."
"Maybe. Maybe not." David shrugs. "If your mother decides to join, he may just change his mind."
"And what about Sammy?"
"He seemed pretty adamant that species didn't matter earlier."
My eyes widen. "You heard all of that?"
"We all did," Dwayne says. "Just because we die during the day doesn't mean we become dead to the world around us. Our senses still work."
"So-"
"The only ones that will die if they cross our paths are those damn brothers."
"And possibly Micheal."
"Michael won't die." David states. "Max insists that all of you would not be harmed no matter how annoying he can be."
"So all of this, what happens from here, is decided mainly by my mom. Okay. Sounds easy enough."
The boys all chuckle, though David is the one to reassure her. "Relax, Majesty. Even if your mother says no, we're not going to let you go that easily."
