Strawberry Fields Forever

Kyle laid in the wide-open field, gazing up at the sky. The sky was swirling with colours that, years ago, Kyle had only dreamed of existing. The sky was not the pitch black that he had grown accustomed to when living with the Horde. Out here, without the pollution from strong beams of man-made light and smog floating into the sky, he could see the sky for what it truly was. He had always imagined stars as small, silver dots in the black abyss of night. As it turned out, there was far less black and silver in the night sky than he had been lead to believe. Instead, there were darkened shades of purples and blues that danced together, fading into one another so flawlessly that, in many places, you couldn't tell where one colour ended and another began. Streaks of brighter blues, greens, pinks, and oranges were hidden in the sky as well, swirling and twisting like strange pathways to the other stars and planets that existed out there. Sometimes, he wondered if that's what they were. It made sense to him- the world was strange and confusing and he wouldn't be surprised by something as unusual as pathways into the universe created by far off stars.

A strong scent permeated the air surrounding him and Bell as the laid in the field not far from Plumeria. The grass beneath him was strangely soft- not anything like he had been taught to imagine it to be when with the Horde. As much as he loved the festivities of the kingdom, he loved these moments just as much. Moments in which he could separate himself from the loud chaos of the kingdom and just enjoy the scenery and the scents of the world, letting his mind wander. It was these moments in which he could think deeply about anything and everything and just enjoy his time, feeling at one with nature.

After what felt like years of staring into the sky, getting lost in his thoughts, something stirred beside him. He tilted his head to the side to see that Beilah was now sitting up. He smiled at her softly as she turned to face him. In her hands, she held a small circlet of flowers and leaves. The flowers and leaves twisted around one another elegantly, creating a small, beautiful crown made from soft leaves and sweet-smelling strawberry flowers that grew in the fields they were laying in. The flower smelled almost as good as the strawberries tasted when they were fully ripe.

"Here," Bell reached forward to place the flower crown atop his head. Kyle ducked his head slightly to make it easier for her before meeting her eyes once more, the happy gleam in her eyes matching the one is his own.

In return for the crown, Kyle plucked one of the large, dark, ruby coloured fruits from where it rested. He reached out to Bell, handing her the delicious fruit. She smiled before biting into the berry.

Kyle broke his eyes from hers and gazed up at the sky as she ate the strawberries. The heavens didn't speak to him as they did to She-Ra. He had no visions of the past or what was to come. Gazing at certain runes revealed no long lost secrets banished by time. Still, looking up into the stars as he was then, the world seemed clearer. The confusion that fogged his memories and his thinking faded away to reveal a crystal clear, easily comprehendible picture. Out in the open, staring into the beautiful sky above him, he realized things that he hadn't before, things that changed everything.

He let his eyes slip closed and breathed deeply, fresh air filling his lungs and steadying his nerves as he thought. He opened his eyes once more to gaze over to Bella, a small smile tracing his lips as he saw her. She munched on the strawberry, but her eyes were not focused on it. Instead, they were focused on the swirling, glittering abyss that hung weightlessly above them, the glorious colours and flecks of shiny star reflected in her eyes beautifully. He couldn't tear his eyes away.

"Bell?"

She averted her gaze from the stars to meet his, "Yeah?"

"I love you."
