Chapter one - The Letter

Marinettes POV

Beep beep
I hit my alarm clock and jumped out of bed. Today was my 11th birthday. I love my birthday not because of the presents or the attention. I liked it because it always made me feel like a new person. Older, taller.

I ran down stairs. Mama and papa were sitting at the table. I ran up to them and hugged them both. I sat down and started to munch on my breakfast. I didn't have anywhere to be, seeing as it was summer.

My parents told me happy birthday and gave me a present. It was a silver necklace with a ladybug on it.
I looked at my parents and gave them a great big hug
" thank you " 

" honey we just want you to know we love you" Marinette's mom said

" we also wanted you to know we will always be there for you even if you feel alone. We know that school can be hard, especially in the years to come. We love you and happy birthday"

" I love you too " Marinette engulfed her parents in a hug

" alright we have one more suprise"

"Really"

"Yes but if you don't want it-

" I wouldn't want to do that, you know."

Marinette's parents both laughed

"Go get ready and then grab then mail and then we will go"

Marinette jumped up and ran to her room. She put her midnight hair into two pigtails, put the ladybug necklace on and threw on some clothes that were laying on the ground. She brushed her teeth and then rushed down stairs to get the mail.

Marinette got the mail and headed back through the bakery and up the stairs to her parents. On her way up she was looking through the mail seeing if anyone had given her a birthday card. When all of the sudden she came across an envelope that was the color of a dirty sidewalk. It look old. On the front side of the envelope it said mrs. M Dupian-Cheng, and it had her address. She turned the envelope over. On the back it had the word Hogwarts written on it. She didn't know anyone or anything by the name Hogwarts. She ran up stairs as fast as she could but in the process tripped in fell.

"Oops"

She hopped back up and made it back to her parents. She had a worried/confused look on her face so her parents where a little worried

" honey what's wrong"

" I found a letter in the mail for me"

" oh that's great, whose it from"

" that's the problem I don't know anyone by the name Hogwarts"  

Both of her parents looked shocked and Marinette had no idea as to why. After a while of silence her mom stared to talk

" honey I think you should sit down"

" why, what is so serious"

Marinette took a seat and her parents began to explain everything.

" how do we start. um so your great great grand father was the first and the final person to get a letter from Hogwarts well until now. You see he was a-um-a wizard"

" a what now"

" a wizard" both of Marinette's parents look just as shocked as Marinette. They never thought there would be another wizard in the family.

" so your telling me the whole magic thing is really"

" yes honey"

Marinette was shocked, confused, and happy. She was a wizard for crying out loud. Then Marinette thought what exactly was Hogwarts her parents never said that

" what is Hogwarts" Marinette asked

" it's a boarding school"

When her dad said that he looked sad but Marinette knew he was also happy. Marinette then remembered that she never actually opened the letter. She opened it up and it read:

Dear Mrs. Dupain-Cheng ,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins 1 September. We await your owl by no later than 31 July.

The letter also had her supply list:

UNIFORM

First-year students will require:

1.Three sets of plain work robes (black)

2.One plain pointed hat (black) for day wear

3.One pair of protective gloves (dragon hide or similar)

4.One winter cloak (black, with silver fastenings)

Please note that all pupils' clothes should carry name tags.

1 cauldron (pewter, standard size 2)

1 set glass or crystal phials

1 telescope

1 set brass scales

Students may also bring an owl OR a cat OR a toad.

PARENTS ARE REMINDED THAT FIRST YEARS ARE NOT ALLOWED THEIR OWN BROOMSTICKS

" where are we supposed to get all this stuff" Marinette looked up at her parents
