Chapter 9

"Vote for Ashton Irwin for prom king!"

"Vote Calum Hood for prom king!"

"Hey you, you look like you need a flyer. Here. Take this." Luke said, handing a flamboyantly colored flyer to a brown haired boy. It was a week before prom and the two were scurrying to rack up votes for team cashton.

"Uh, dude. Who's Calvin?"

"Ashton's, uh, girlfriend." Michael sputtered out, making Brendon raise an eyebrow. "Okay, mate. I've, uh, got to get to class."

Michael and Luke caught sight of their two friends walking into the parking lot, Calum making extravagant gestures that made Ashton giggle. Luke quickly grabbed Michael's wrist and pulled him into the school, and towards his locker. He gestured for Michael to hold the signs while he unlocked it, then transferred the papers from Michael's arms to his locker.

He scurried to close it then ushered Michael to their first class.

"Ready?" Michael asked, straightening his suit. He had told his mum that it was over the top, but she had insisted he wear it. There wasn't a moment the black and blue haired boy didn't regret begrudgingly going along with it.

Luke sighed. "Yeah, I guess." he walked out of Michael's house and towards his car, Michael directly beside him.

"How'd you get Calum to come anyway?" The blonde asked, opening Michael's door for him like it was second nature, causing the mixed haired boy to blush. He cleared his throat.

"Actually, I didn't have to." Luke raised doubts an eyebrow at him. he shrugged before a large smile overtook his face. "Ashton talked him into it." Luke chuckled, shaking his head, and began to back out of the driveway.

"So your mum was rather excited about me picking you up, huh?" He laughed out, sending a glance towards Michael. Michael blushed.

He sighed before saying; "Yeah. The only friend I've ever really had was Calum, so she got a little happy."

They both laughed, silently reminiscing Michael's mum taking a lifetime worth of pictures of the two even though they weren't on a date or dating.

When the pair arrived, they immediately noticed Ashton's car, parked in it's usual spot next to Luke's. They smirked and shared a celebratory high five.

"Right according to plan." Luke spoke, causing Michael to clap his hand over Luke's mouth.

"Don't jinx it, pretty boy."

At this point, all four of the boys were sitting together at a table in the corner, for Luke and Ashton had never really liked the whole 'school dance' thing. Michael and Calum's reasons were pretty self-explanatory, though.

"They're announcing prom king and queen soon." Ashton spoke, breaking the silence at the table. Michael had to hold in his panicked, erratic, breaths. He and Luke's plan really knew how to peak those nerves.

"Yeah, they are." Luke replied, letting out a humorless chuckle, hunting to Michael that he was as nervous as he was, which made the dyed haired boy breath a little easier.

"Okay everyone, we're going to announce this year's prom king and queen! Everyone gather around the dance floor!" Michael and Luke sprang up, scurrying to the center of the gym, while Cal and Ash took their sweet time.

"Okay students, you voted and chose the recipients of this year's crowns. who did you choose? We'll find out soon, because it's right here in this envelope that I'm holding. You're all getting really nervous, aren't you? You're all praying that your name is on this little white card in my hand. Y'all are getting anxious, huh? I understand, you just want to find out who-"

"Shut up and just tell us you idiot!" Michael yelled ready to punch the guy in the face if he didn't hurry up the already slow process.

The guy sighed, but continued. "Okay, this year's prom king and queen are..."

Michael and Luke but their nails and tapped their feet as the guy took a long pause for dramatic effect. They were so nervous at this point that they were ready to get knives to get those crowns on the two boys standing next to them.

Meanwhile, Calum and Ashton were beside them playing rock paper scissors.

"The 2014 annual prom recipients of prom king and queen are...

"Luke Hemmings and Michael Clifford!"
