Luke and Michael froze. Their eyes widened, and. The whole auditorium was silent. Everybody was staring at the two, urging them to walk up to the stage. They stayed put, though. They were both way too in shock to actually move. Sure, most of the people around them were tapping their shoulders, maybe even pushing them a little bit, but still, neither of them budged. That is, of course, until a loud sound broke the two out of their trances in complete unison.

And that would be the distinct sound of Ashton Irwin's laughter, which was quickly followed by Calum's. At this point, Ashton and Calum were practically rolling around on the floor laughing while Michael and Luke stood there, absolutely gobsmacked. Looks of utter confusion penetrated Luke's face, but Michael's face showed a look of realization. Then fury.

He knew what the two weasels had done. Sure, he and Luke had planned to do the same thing, but it was different being at the other end of the joke.

Michael's gaze upon the two traitors hardened, but, nevertheless, he grabbed Luke's wrist and pulled the still frozen boy up on to the stage to receive their crowns.

By the time Luke had stubbed his toe while being dragged to the stage, he had come to realization with fate. Which is why he was quick to grab the King crown, leaving Michael with an overzealous tiara. Michael groaned and snatched the tiara, carelessly throwing it onto his head. Luke laughed, places nah his crown atop his head in an over-exaggerated and cordial manner, making Michael roll his eyes.

"Okay! Let's slooooow it down now, and play a special slow song for these two lovebirds right here, eh?"

The crowd hooted and cheered, while the Prom King and Queen stood on the rage with red faces looking at each other.

"Sorry." Michael whispered to Luke as the announcer guy pushed them off of the stage and into a slow dancing position.

Luke chuckled. "Nothing to be sorry about, Mikey. Ashton and Calum are the ones who are going to have to be sorry. Especially when we get back at them next year."

"Well, that was an, er, eventful night, huh?" Luke asked, rubbing the back of his neck, as he started his car. Michael cleared his throat, and gave Luke a weird look. "Well, I think the word for it would be embarrassing, but I guess it's your opinion."

Luke laughed and pulled out of his parking spot. "I don't think it was that embarrassing." He said with a shrug.
Michael's jaw dropped in mock offense. "How dare you say that?!" He exclaimed. "But seriously, we were just humiliatied in front of the whole school and you have the nerve to say it wasn't 'that embarrassing'? C'mon, man. Get with it."

Luke chuckled even more, before his face went red. "At least you weren't sitting with Ashton that one time in lunch when his girlfriend gave this big speech about how annoying he was and broke up with him. Now that was embarrassing." Michael rolled his eyes.

"Yeah. For Ashton."

"Not just for him. I got on her bad side to and she accused him of cheating on her with me, which wasn't true. I almost
punched her in the face." They both chuckled, because Michael couldn't imagine Luke hitting anyone.

"I wish I didn't miss it. That probably happened back when Calum and I ate I the cafeteria." He said with a laugh.

Everything finally fully hit Michael as he laid down to go to sleep. When Luke dropped him off, his mum had invited the blonde in for 'dessert'. Michael couldn't believe that Luke said yes, even though he had made it painfully obvious that it was a bad idea and that his mum was absolutely mad. He knew she would just eat up something like Michael's weird relationship with Luke.

Michael's mum had little bowls of chocolate ice cream already set up at the dining table they rarely use, with the fancy placemats set out and a tablecloth that Michael had never seen before was draped very delicately over the table.

The good spoons and plates that no one was ever allowed to touch were out. They had try hard designs on it, obviously made to impress, and Michael had thought his mum had bought them in case she had her boss over for dinner or something like that.

It was painfully obvious that his mum had put excruciating thought into this and had been prepared for quite a while. It was as if she had been planning this very moment since the day he was born.

Michael figured she had gotten the table ready as soon as he left for prom. The look in his mum's eyes told him that he was correct.

She had pushed the two into seats right next to each other, and took one opposite of them. Michael and Luke noticed that their chairs were closer together than the other ones.

"Calum texted me." she had begun. "And I must say, I'm very proud of you two."

"Mum, what are you talking about?" Michael said, sounding a bit tired, as if he was used to his mother's antics. "You two are prom king and queen! It's a great honor! Your peers thought you were the cutest couple, and frankly I wouldn't disagree." She said, holding her innocent smile throughout.

Michael groaned and buried his face in his hands while Luke seemed to choke on his own spit.

She continued, however. "But let's save that matter for later, you boys should eat your ice cream before it melts." Karen's creepy town made Luke instantly shove his spoon into his bowl, then his mouth, eyes wide the whole time.

"Mum, stop scaring him." Michael stuttered out. "And we're not dating."
"Eat your ice cream, Michael." She repeated. Michael was quick to obey, not wanting to taunt with the scary tone in his mother's voice.

The three ate their ice cream in silence for a while, until Michael's mum cleared her throat. "So," She had said. "Are you two thinking of adopting?"

Luke's eyes almost popped out of his sockets, and he had to spit out the ice cream he was eating into his napkin. Michael froze. "Um, excuse me?" Luke said, rather timidly. Karen nodded him along. "We're, uh, not, um, dating, Mrs. Clifford."

She shook her hand at him. "Call me Karen, son." Luke hesitantly nodded, skeptical of how she called him son. "Karen." He said slowly.

"You can tell me anything, you know, Michael. And I think it's pretty important to tell your mum when you finally start dating the boy you've been pining the vet for years I mean-"

Michael pushed off of the table with his hands and stood up. "Okay, Luke should really be going now, huh? C'mon Luke, let's, uh, get you out." Luke frantically nodded, getting up as well.

They scurried out the door and down the driveway to Luke's car.

They were both wide eyed and staring at each other, faces only a few inches apart.
"I'm really sorry about my mum, Luke. She's crazy." Luke chuckled, which threw Michael off.

"It's fine, it's fine. I liked her," He had said. "Ya' know, except for when she was scaring the crap out of me." They smiled at each other, progressively getting closer and closer.

Michael had envisioned that the things he dreamed about every night were finally going to come true, they were finally going to kiss.

Until the flash and 'click!' of a camera cut them off.

Michael's mum stopped the one thing he wanted in life.

Their heads turned snapped towards her. She had been standing there with a gigantic smile. "I told you so." She said.
Michael let out a bit of air for the first time in a while, and pushed Luke into his car.

"Call you tomorrow, Luke! Bye!" He had yelled before running into the house.
And that left Michael where he was now, touching his lips and imagining that they had actually touched Luke Hemmings'.
