Rhylan's POV
—————
I was running through the woods. My feet wouldn't, couldn't carry me fast enough. My wolf took over.

The sound of her scream echoed through my head. It was just one word.

My name.
———
When I finally reach the hospital, a small crowd was gathered around Amaris and Maella. They were nurses and visiting pack members.

I rush to Amaris, my eyes taking in the situation.

Bombs.

I send Amaris a look with my eyes, hoping she can catch what I'm trying to say.

I'm sorry.

How did this happen?

I'll get you out.

She sends me a look back, gesturing to Maella. I'm confused, until I look at her arm.

The cast.

The box was sitting on her cast, turning her arm in a way that couldn't be comfortable.

I crouch in front of her and her wide and frantic eyes meet mine.

"Maella, I need you to be very still for me love, okay? I need you to do everything I say." I speak low and precise. "I'll make everything okay."

She nods her head slowly, too afraid to even breathe. I stand and make my way carefully around the welcome mat. I enter the hospital and speed over to the front desk. Liza, the woman usually behind it follows me from the front door.

"What's going on Alpha Rhylan?"

"Find Maella's chart. Tell me her weight. Now."

Liza begins typing on the computer, not bothering to sit. I keep an eye on Amaris, my wolf going crazy inside my head.

'Save our mate.'

'I'm trying, fuck I'm trying!'

Finally, after what feels like an eternity, she pulls up Maella's records.

"She weighs 40 pounds."

"Even?" I ask.

"Yes Alpha."

Using the mindlink, I channel the entire pack.

'Do any of you know how to decode a bomb?'

Immediately replies came back, causing me to have a headache.

'Alpha?'

'A bomb?! WHAT?'

'I've seen a little criminal minds but-'

'There's a bomb?! Where?'

'Oh my god WE'RE GOING TO DIE! MOM WE'RE GOING TO DIE-'

'STOP!' I cut through the voices. 'One person, ONE! I need answers now!'

'Alpha, I've been trained to decode bombs.'

I sighed in relief, walking out of the hospital. I crouched in front of Maella.

'Good, make your way to the hospital. And pick up two twenty pound bags of rice. Get here fast.'

I block off the questions of the pack members. I feel horrible about leaving them in the dark but right now I need to be focused.

Reaching my hands out, I tell Maella to give me the box.

"But Alpha Rhylan-!"

"Rhylan, no." Amaris says, but I shake my head. She needs to trust me.
