Third person POV
(Not edited)
—————
It wasn't the first time Rhylan had heard that ringing sound today. It wasn't even the first time within the hour. She was tired of jumping up from the chair, grabbing the phone and being disappointed every time it wasn't Amaris' sweet voice that answered. No, it was usually "I'm very sorry to hear about..." and "If you need anything, call..."She just wanted all of it to stop, just for a minute, so she could think.
But no, the phone continued to ring. Rhylan wasn't sure if the phone was even ringing, this time, or if it was just her ears. She blew all of the air out of her lungs and sunk down to the floor.
'Make it stop, please!?' She begged her wolf.
'I'm sorry, Rhylan.'
'Me too.'
"Rhylan! Answer that phone, please honey." Cynthia said, rubbing the back of her daughter. It had been only a day since Amaris was taken, and Rhylan was already showing the tendencies of a decaying wolf.
When a werewolf loses their mate, they slowing begin to lose their mind, and Cynthia didn't want that for her only daughter.
"I don't want to Mom. They aren't doing anything to help. They say 'Call me if you need something' but I do, and I did. No one's seen anything, and no one can help." Rhylan said, hugging her knees. "I just have to wait for Jackson."
"But that is Jackson, sweetheart." Cynthia had barely finished speaking when Rhylan jumped up, grabbed the phone and greeted her Beta with an impatient "Hello?"
"Alpha, I may have a lead on the rogues' recent attacks." Jackson said. There were voices in the background, and the sound of clinking glasses.
"Jackson, what the hell are you talking about? What about Amaris?!" She exclaimed, pacing in front of her desk.
Cynthia began to grow more worried, but closed the door to the office anyway. As a former Luna, she had the right to sit in on this conversation but decided against it. Rhylan needed to handle this on her own, for the sake of her own sanity.
Barely noticing that her mother left, Rhylan focused on Jackson.
"That's the thing Alpha, I have reason to believe that the rogue attacks and Luna's kidnapping are heavily linked."
Rhylan figured that made sense, considering she was kidnapped at the same time as a rogue attack. "So where is my mate?"
"I'm outside of a bar right now, in Europe. I believe that the base for the rogues was somewhere here, until it was moved to another remote location. A woman that lives a couple cities over is one of the last known contacts of a 'werewolf gang' in this continent."
Rhylan sighed and sat down in her chair. "Have one of the trackers confirm that the 'werewolf gang' is the rogues. Be careful with this woman, Jackson. Please."
"Yes Alpha. I will call you in exactly one hour with the details of the conversation." Jackson didn't wait for a reply, though Rhylan didn't have one. Her mind was whirling around the words Jackson had said. "Werewolf gang" and "Europe," to be exact. Where did they take her?
A knock on the office door pulled Rhylan from her thoughts.
"Come in." She said. Vizen, Jedd and Josiah stepped in, closing the door quietly. She didn't speak.
"Do you have any news for us?" Vizen asked, her voice slightly shaky.
"Nothing of significance, though there is a possible lead. I don't want to get your hopes up, Vizen." Rhylan said in a low voice.
