~Mia~
I look at the clock hanging on my bedroom wall. 11:35 pm. I've seriously been doing homework and studying for five hours. I need to get some sleep.
I clean up all my books and shove them into my bag. I change into a t-shirt and shorts and pull my hair out of the messy bun I did this morning.
I set my phone on my night stand and walk into the bathroom to brush my teeth. As I go to grab my tooth brush I hear a loud bang. I jump back and search around the bathroom for what made the noise.
Nothing.
I walk out of the bathroom and back into my bedroom and search.
What the hell was that?
I don't see anything so I turn to walk back into the bathroom but I hear it again. Bang.
I jump again, startled by the noise. I turn around and look over to my bedroom window. I swear I see something move out there but I'm not sure.
I walk over to the window slowly and look outside. It's too dark to see much but I'm pretty sure there's a shadow over by the tree a feet feet away from my window. I'm almost positive it's the shadow of a human.
I quickly make sure my window is locked. Thank god it already is. I close my curtains and run over to my bed. I grab my phone and dial 911.
"Hello, how can-"
"I think there's someone standing outside my window and watching me. I heard a lot of noises and I saw a shadow. I'm not sure but I'm freaked out and-"
"Okay, calm down. Can you tell me your name."
"Mia Wahlberg."
"And what's your address?"
"210 Mayflower street. It's the apartment building on the left and I'm on the first floor. Room A17."
"Alright, I'll send someone over. Just stay inside and keep everything locked until the police get there."
"Okay, thank you."
I hang up and set my phone down on my bed beside me. I'm probably overreacting. I don't even know if that's actually a person out there. And if it is they might live in this apartment building. But why would they be outside my window?
What if it is someone and they've been watching me for hours.
Shit.
I'm freaking out again. It's probably nothing. I just need to calm down. This is why I hate living alone.
The police finally arrive after 15 minutes. I've already had an anxiety attack and I just want to know if there's someone out there.
One cop comes into my apartment room and tells me there's two others outside searching the area, then starts asking me questions.
"What happened exactly before you called us?" He asks. "I was just in my bedroom getting ready for bed and I started hearing loud noises outside my window. I looked outside and it's pretty dark so it's hard to see anything but I'm pretty sure I saw a human figure shadow." I explained.
Listening to myself explain, I honestly sounded so pathetic.
"You think you saw a shadow and of a human figure?" He asks, narrowing his eyes. "Yeah. I'm probably overreacting. But I did hear noises right outside my window."
"More than one?" He asks. He walks over to my bedroom window and starts looking outside. "Yeah. I heard it twice... actually now that I think about it, I heard some strange noises last night too. A couple of times. I thought it was nothing so I just went to bed and I stopped hearing it."
"What did it sound like?"
"I don't know. It just sounded like a bang. I don't know how to describe it." I say, rubbing my arm. I really wanted to know if they found anything outside.
"Did you hear anything again after you called?" He asks. "No. It stopped after I called."
The other two cops that were outside came in through my front door to my apartment. I followed the cop that was in my bedroom out to the front door. "We didn't find anything. We searched around the whole building. If there actually was anyone out there, they're gone now." One of the other cops say.
"So everything's fine then?" I ask. "If you actually see anyone outside your window then call again, but it was probably nothing. You're safe."
"Okay. Thank you. Sorry for wasting your time." I say, kind of feeling embarrassed. But I had to be sure.
"It's fine, it wasn't a waste of time. It's natural to panic over something like this. Just next time make sure you've actually seen something before you call. Have a good night."
"Thank you." I say again, closing the door and locking it after they leave.
I walk back into my bedroom and get into bed. I check the time on my phone. 12:57 am. I have to wake up at 7:00 am. I turn off my lamp and try to go to sleep.
A while later I roll over and check the time on my phone again. 1:45 am. I can't sleep. I'm still weirded out by the whole situation. I decide to text Zach and see if he's still awake.
Mia: hey. Are you still up?
Zach: I was about to go to bed
Mia: Can we talk quick? I can't sleep
Zach: what's up?
Mia: I called the police to come investigate outside my apartment
Zach: WHY??
Mia: don't worry it was nothing. I thought there was someone outside watching me but I guess it was nothing
Zach: did you see anyone?
Mia: not really. Idk I thought I saw a shadow
Zach: what did the cops say?
Mia: they didn't find anything and told me not to worry. They said to make sure I actually see someone before I call next time
Zach: wtf
Mia: idk I see what they mean but I was scared
Zach: uh yeah. Are you ok now?
Mia: yeah I guess just still kind of shaken up but I'm glad it was nothing
Zach: just try to get some sleep. If they didn't find anything then it was probably nothing
Mia: yeah. Well we better go to sleep now. Goodnight
Zach: goodnight
I turn off my phone and set it on my night stand. I start thinking about Spencer again to try and distract myself and then I finally fall asleep.
