"I'm home!" Peter yelled as he entered his apartment. I was a bit more apprehensive. I slowly stepped through the door, my eyes flickering to every object around the small apartment.
In the time that Peter had gone on patrol I'd gone to a local mall and bought what I could. I didn't get many things, since I'd only be staying a week. Peter threw the bag in his window, and brought me through the front door.
"Why were you out so late?"
I narrowed my eyes towards Peter, trying to say, "She doesn't know??"
He raised his brows in return, like that was a good enough excuse.
"I was out with a, uh..." He hesitated, as if he didn't know how to label me. "A friend."
May walked into the room, and blinked as she took notice of me. "Oh, Peter, you didn't tell me you wanted to have someone over!"
I finally spoke up. "I'm (Y/N) (L/N), I just moved here. I'm transferring to Peter's school."
May set down her mug on the coffee table. "Ah, where are you from?"
"Brooklyn."
May nodded, satisfied. "Well, if Peter had told me someone was coming over, I could've prepared something better... I hope you're okay with Kraft mac' and cheese..."
I smiled, nodding. "That's fine."
Peter spoke up. "May? Can I talk to you?"
She nodded. "(Y/N), you can wait in the dining room."
"Yeah, we'll just be a sec." Peter said, following May to the hall.
I sat in a random chair, and looked around at the apartment. It was very cute, and homey. My thoughts were interrupted when I heard Peter and May's conversation, thanks to my heightened senses.
"I just wanted to know... If she could spend the night?"
"I don't know, Peter. I mean, didn't you just meet this girl?"
"Yeah, but she said, uhm, things have been kind of rough at home. She needs space to breathe"
Nice excuse.
"What? Is she okay?"
"Yeah, it's just a stupid fight, but she doesn't really want to be around her family right now."
"Well... You tell her to call her parents. It's okay if they're okay with it."
"Yes! Thank you May!"
I acted as if I couldn't hear anything they'd just said as they returned to the dining room.
"(Y/N), sweetie, you call your parents, okay? You can spend the night if they're okay with it."
"Sure! Thank you, Ms. Parker!"
"Please, just call me May." She said over her shoulder as she returned to the kitchen.
I turned to Peter. "Give me your phone." I hissed.
"Why?"
"So I can pretend to call my parents."
"Oh, right." He fumbled as he pushed his phone into my hands.
I glanced down at his phone, then back up at him. "You seriously still have the default background?"
"I don't think that's a priority right now!"
I sharply exhaled, then walked where I knew May would hear me, taking the case off the phone as I did. I pretended to dial a number, then held the phone to my ear.
"Hey, dad, it's me... Yes, I'm fine... I'm at someone's house. Peter Parker, the one I shadowed today... I just wanted to know if I can spend the night? Great! Thanks, dad!"
"Does he want me to talk to him?" May asked as she set down three bowls onto the table.
"Ah, he already hung up."
May nodded, and we sat down to eat.
"So, (Y/N), you're transferring to Midtown? You must be a bright girl. What school are you coming from?"
"It's called Magnet School of Science and Technology. I'm pretty sure they and Midtown have a partnership or something, so all my credits and stuff should transfer easily."
I looked down, mixing the fake cheese into the pasta, allowing the steam to rise out of the bowl. Peter and May were talking, but I paid no attention. I was wishing for any reason to suit up and go on patrol again. It was how I de-stressed, and got my energy out. It was like a form of self-expression. Not being allowed to do that was torture.
It's only a week, (Y/N), only a week...
