I snapped my head up to find the rest of the pack busting through the doors. They all ran over to the table and swarmed the muffins that were on it.
"First day back and you're already startin' fights, huh Cameron?" Jake asked with a smirk on his face. He nudged me and sat down in the chair next to mine.
"I taught her everything she knows," Paul chimed in, placing a chaste kiss on top of my head and sitting two seats over from me.
I scanned the room and watched as Embry walked through the front door. His eyes never left mine as he went straight to the chair next to me. As he went to pull it out, a hand grabbed it and stopped it.
I glanced up to find Jared giving Embry a stern look. Embry nodded and took the seat next to Paul. Jared sat down by me and placed an arm across the back of my chair.
The rest of the pack filed in and we all began talking like normal. Well, they did. I was still extremely on edge. I mean, how could you just be imprinted on and not feel weird? My jaw stayed clenched as I tried to push my thoughts to the back of my mind.
I'm snapped out of my worry by a hand grabbing mine and pulling it onto their lap. I glanced at Jacob who was leaning over to my ear.
"Try to look a little less tense. Jar's making that face again."
I nodded my head and smiled. Jake squeezed my hand reassuringly before placing it back in my lap. I turned towards the table and started listening to their conversation.
"Claire turns four in a few months, I don't know what I'm gonna do," Quil said as he sat his head in his hands.
"She's grown so much recently. She's getting so big," Emily added from Sam's lap.
"Ugh, don't remind him. I just got him to stop crying over it this morning!" Embry exclaimed while running a hand down his face.
We all laughed and Sam and Embry patted Quil's back while he shook his head. Quil looked absolutely distraught about Claire's birthday coming soon. As silence slowly started to creep into the room I spoke up, trying to ease the tension.
"Claire. That's your imprint, right? I think Jared showed me a picture of her once, but she was only two then."
All eyes fell on me as I spoke. Quil shot Jared a glance before looking back to me. He sat forward in his seat and sat his hands on the table.
"Uh, yeah. She is. She's my pride and joy," he said with a chuckle.
I could see the love and adoration burning from his eyes. It was the same look Sam had in his when he talked about Emily. And it was the same look Embry was giving me right now.
I nodded my head and smiled. From the corner of my eye I saw Jared grow even more tense. He removed the arm he had sitting on the back of my chair and sat it on the table, his fist clenching slightly.
"It must be a weird feeling. Imprinting, I mean," I said in a quieter voice than I intended to.
I watched as Jared grabbed on to the side of the table, visibly uncomfortable by the topic. Jacob placed a hand on my knee, causing me to glance over to him. He shook his head and gave me a warning look. I knew exactly what he was trying to say.
Drop the topic.
But as I said before, three years in boarding school really brings out the rebel in you.
I sent him a playful smile and watched as his features went from stern to defeated. He rolled his eyes and slumped back in his seat, crossing his arms over his chest. I turned back to Quil with an innocent look on my face. I felt everyone's eyes but Jared's on me as I opened my mouth.
"Just think about it. Gaining all the emotions of falling in love with someone in just a split second, rather than months. It must be quite overwhelming. I can't even imagine the thoughts running through your-"
I got cut off by Jared banging against the table and stomping out of the house. A sly grin creeps across my face as I hear the door slam behind me. Once again, all eyes fall onto me.
"Seriously (Y/n)? I warned you to stop and now look what you did," Jake groaned as he ran his hand down his face.
A small giggle escaped my mouth as I looked at the door behind me.
No doubt about it, Jared was pissed, and he sure wasn't cooling down anytime soon.
I glanced at Jake who had an irritated look on his face. I nudged his shoulder playfully, causing him to look back up at me. Before I can even register what was happening, Jake had his hands on my waist tickling me. Giggles escaped my mouth once again as he attacked me. He pulled me onto his lap to get a better advantage. I lightly started shoving and hitting him the best that I could.
"Paws off."
Jake automatically froze as both of our heads snapped to the direction the voice came from. When our eyes land on the culprit our mouths drop open. Embry was glaring at Jake as low growls exited his throat. Jake slowly sat me back on my own chair, not making any sudden movements. Paul moved to the edge of his seat, very clearly ready to take the defensive in case things went south.
I have never seen this side to Embry before. In fact, no one has ever seen this side of Embry before. Embry was always laid back and goofy. He never cared about anything other than having a good time. Now he was giving Jacob death stares just for touching me.
A second later Embry shook his head rapidly, as if he were trying to shake off a spell. When he looked back at Jake and I, his stare was soft and he looked like our old Embry again.
"I-I'm sorry. I don't know what that was," Embry stammered out as his eyes fixed onto his lap. He ran a hand nervously through his hair as the silence consumed the room.
The tension grew thick as all eyes landed on Embry. Even Seth was surprised by what had just happened. Leah even looked a little amused. As the seconds passed, I was debating on saying something, anything, to break the tension.
But luckily, I didn't have to.
Out of nowhere Quil and Sam both erupt into a fit of laughter. The rest of us all looked at them confused, waiting for an explanation. Embry's head slowly raised up to look at the two boys on either side of him.
"Ohhh man, that was good!" Sam said through laughs as he patted Embry on the back.
"Bro you should've seen your face! It was worse than mine when someone other than me held Claire for the first time," Quil added, wiping tears of laughter away from his eyes.
"Wait hold on, I'm confused," I said as I looked between the three boys who were sitting across from me.
They all three looked at me, then to each other before reverting their gaze back to me again.
"Well (Y/n), Embry just had his first round of imprint jealousy. As you can see, he's very possessive. Maybe even more than me," Sam said as he sent a smirk in Embry's direction.
"If Jake would've touched you a second longer, he would've been puppy chow," Quil added with a wink in Jacob's direction.
I looked over to Embry, who was staring at his hands. He slowly lifted his eyes to meet mine and as he did, a deep blush spread across his cheekbones.
"I'm sorry guys. I didn't know that insane wolf jealousy was a part of the whole imprint thing," Embry said, his eyes never leaving mine.
"It's totally fine. We get it. Right (Y/n)?" Jake asked while nudging my shoulder playfully.
"Y-Yeah. T-Totally fine," I stuttered as a light blush of my own creeped onto my face.
The boys started new conversations after that, all talking about random things. I chimed in every now and then but I couldn't really stay focused on anything they had to say. My mind was racing, one thought in particular sticking out among the others.
Embry's very possessive.
